Arkveld, the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds, is certainly one of the toughest challenges the game has to offer, even in Low Rank. However, it is in High Rank that the monster truly gets to shine. The High Rank version of Arkveld (Flying Wyvern) is significantly more challenging and aggressive than its Guardian counterpart. However, there’s an ever tougher version of the monster in the game, which serves as Monster Hunter Wilds’ true endgame challenge. This is none other than the Tempered Arkveld. Although the Tempered variant boasts the same movesets as its regular counterpart in High Rank, there are some noticeable differences between the two.

Not only is the Tempered variant more aggressive, but it can stay enraged for a much longer amount of time and has access to combos that can technically “one-shot” you. However, with a properly optimized build and strategy, you can easily defeat the Tempered Arkveld. Here’s everything you need to know about the Tempered Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds and how to defeat it.

Tempered Arkveld Overview

Tempered Arkveld is essentially similar to the regular Arkveld, albeit with higher overall defense and aggression. Much like the regular variant, the Tempered Arkveld is a Flying Wyvern, which can be found in all the regions of the map, including the Wounded Hollow.

The only key difference between the two variants lies in the rewards they have to offer. Hunting a Tempered Arkveld rewards you with Rarity 8 Atian Parts, on top of the usual suite of Decorations and monster materials. In addition to that, the Zenny and Guild Points payout for slaying a Tempered Arkveld is also significantly higher. That said, it’s also quite a significant step up in terms of challenge.

The Tempered Arkveld retains essentially all the movesets of the regular variant but ramps up the damage output. It also stays in the enraged state much longer compared to the regular Arkveld and hence can use its chainblades to inflict Dragon elemental damage more frequently. Furthermore, the Tempered Arkveld is less prone to flinching, which is something you need to be mindful of if you’re using weapons like the Great Sword or Sword and Shield. In addition to that, Tempered Arkveld has a tougher hide, which isn’t easily wounded.

How To Unlock Tempered Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Tempered Arkveld is only available exclusively as an Investigation, after you complete the main story quests in High Rank. Similarly to other monsters, Tempered Arkveld has three different variants based on strength, with the 5-star strength one being the most powerful.

In addition to that, much like the regular Arkveld, Tempered Arkveld is an invasive species, and can appear in all the regions of Monster Hunter Wilds. Occasionally, the Flying Wyvern can also appear in the Wounded Hollow. Similar to the Apex Monsters, Tempered Arkveld has a higher tendency to appear during Inclemency. However, it can also appear during Plenty and even Fallow.

Possible Turf Wars

Much like the regular Arkveld, Tempered Arkveld can have turf wars with almost any other monster in the game. In Windward Plains, the monster regularly clashes against Quematrice, Chatacabra, Balahara, and Rey Dau. Within the Scarlet Forest, Tempered Arkveld can have a turf war with Lala Barina, Yian Kut-Ku, and Uth Duna. In Oilwell Basin, the Flying Wyvern can clash with Rathalos, Rathian, and occasionally, even Nu Udra. In Iceshard Cliffs, possible turf wars for Tempered Arkveld are against Gypceros, Nerscylla, Blangonga, and even Gore Magala. Lastly, in Ruins of Wyveria, Tempered Arkveld can clash with Guardians, Ajarakan, and Xu Wu.

Tempered Arkveld Weaknesses

Tempered Arkveld is primarily weak to Dragonblight (Dragon Elemental). However, it also is vulnerable to Paralysis, Sleep, and Blast. In fact, if you plan to use Artian Weapons for the monster, we highly recommend using Paralysis status. With the Paralysis Jewel and Critical Status, you can easily paralyze Arkveld, immobilizing it and allowing you to dish out a ton of damage. Furthermore, Blast also works incredibly well against the monster. However, if you plan to use elemental weapons, we highly recommend Guardian Arkveld or the Gore Magala tree. The Gore Magala weapons in particular work incredibly well against Arkveld due to the Dragon Element and Critical Element skills.

Here’s a look at all the weaknesses of Tempered Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds:

Elemental Weaknesses

  • Dragon (Dragonblight)

Status Weaknesses

  • Paralysis
  • Sleep
  • Blast (Blastblight)

Tempered Arkveld’s Weak Points

Much like the regular Arkveld, the Head, Chainblades, Back, and Tail are the weak points of the Tempered Arkveld. However, since it’s a Tempered Monster, these parts aren’t wounded nearly as easily as the regular variant’s. Instead, damaging these weak points will reveal a tempered wound (indicated by a purple/blue hue). Destroying the tempered wound will allow you to tenderize these weak points and create regular wounds on them.

Best Weapons for Tempered Arkveld

There are no specific weapons that work best against Tempered Arkveld. All 14 weapon types are equally as effective as the others. However, you would want to carry something that is at least Rarity 7 or 8, with Dragon Element. Arkveld is extremely weak to Dragon Element and using a weapon with Dragon Attack can help you deal a ton of bonus damage to the monster.

We do think melee weapons work the best against Arkveld. However, there have been players who were able to defeat the Tempered variant with weapons like Bow, LBG, and HBG. Essentially, make sure you’re perfectly well-versed with whichever weapon you choose to wield against Tempered Arkveld.

Items To Carry

Here are the items you should carry with you while taking on the Tempered Arkveld:

  • Mega Potions
  • Nulberry
  • Energy Drink (essential for Dual Blade and Bow users)
  • Shock Trap
  • Pitfall Trap
  • Flash Pod

Here are some tips that will help you easily defeat the Tempered Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • Make sure you have good armor with at least 350 Defense. You can also invest in Dragon Resistance. However, it’s not necessary, as you can easily counteract Dragonblight using a Nulberry. Furthermore, the Palico occasionally uses a Purewasp to help recover from Dragonblight.

  • Always start the fight with a sneak attack, followed by a mount. This not only lets you deal a substantial amount of damage right at the start of the encounter but also creates a ton of wounds, which you can destroy to deal additional damage. Furthermore, a successful mount always results in a topple, which is a great way to dish out elemental damage.

  • If you’re using a melee build, focus on the head at the start of the battle. Tenderizing and breaking the head will allow you to stagger Arkveld much more easily. In addition to that, you can also target the chainblades, which are quite easy to wound. The chainblades also break quite easily, which is highly recommended as it reduces the effectiveness of Arkveld’s grab and three-hit combo.

  • Some of the important skills that we recommend for Tempered Arkveld are – Slugger, Weakness Exploit, Flayer, Partbreaker, and most importantly, Convert Element. The Convert Element skill lets you absorb Arkveld’s Dragon elemental attacks and strengthen your Dragon Elemental attacks. In combination with Dragon Attack Level 3 and Critical Element Level 3, the Convert Element becomes one of the most powerful skills against Tempered Arkveld.

  • Lastly, do not try to rush the monster. Much like Gore Magala, Tempered Arkveld is meant to be an endgame fight. As such, it needs to be treated like one. Even with an optimized build, defeating the Tempered Arkveld can easily take upwards of 15-20 minutes. Make sure you have a good endgame-ready build prepared before you decide to go toe-to-toe with Tempered Arkveld.

  • We highly recommend the Guardian Arkveld or the regular Arkveld armor sets. These Rarity 8 armor sets not only come with ample Defense but also skills like Hasten Recovery, which massively increases survivability. For weapons, we recommend the Gore Magala tree since they come with 20% Affinity, and also Critical Element (Dragon).
