How to Get the Dread Iron Dagger in BG3?
You can only get the Dread Iron Dagger in Baldur’s Gate 3 by discovering the Murder Tribunal and choosing to become an Unholy Assassin. Doing so will unlock a merchant named Echo of Abazigal, who will have the battleaxe and other unique items for sale.
Additionally, discovering the Murder Tribunal is part of the quest line you follow to confront Orin and gain her Netherstone. Orin herself also drops some good loot, including Bloodthirst and Crimson Mischief.
Step 1- How to Find Orin
You can begin the search for Orin in one of two ways. If you choose to defeat Gortash first, she will reveal the location and password for accessing the Tribunal. Alternatively, you can start the quest Investigate the Murders by visiting the Open Hand Temple in Rivington. Completing this quest will also grant you the location and password required to find the Tribunal.
Step 2- Murder Tribunal and Candulhallow’s Tombstones
Head to Candulhallow’s Tombstones in the Lower City to find the entrance to the Murder Tribunal. This abandoned shop is located northeast of Elfsong Tavern. You can easily lock-pick the front door to gain entry.
Once inside, head to the back office. On the wall, you’ll find a painting of a ‘Butterfly on Skull.’ Remove the painting to reveal a button underneath. Pressing it will uncover a secret door. Interact with the door and enter the password.
Disregard the sign beyond this door and follow the brick path to the right, which will lead you to the Murder Tribunal and the path to the Dread Iron Dagger in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Step 3- Become an Unholy Assassin of Bhaal
Present the guards you find with a dismembered hand you should have picked up along the way as proof you have killed. If you can’t, they will become hostile and you’ll have to fight.
Next, head on inside to the Murder Tribunal audience hall. You’ll have to make some critical story and character decisions here. Certain choices may instigate combat with members of the Tribunal.
However, if you want the battleaxe you need to agree to be judged by Bhaal. Sarevok will summon the shade of someone you killed and ask you how it was done. Your response must provide details and confirm you killed someone in cold blood.
Finally, you will be led into a chamber where Investigator Valeria is being held prisoner. Killing her is the final test. When you have done so, you will be anointed in the nearby pool of blood as an Unholy Assassin of Bhaal.
Step 4- Find the Echo of Abazigal Trader
Now that you are an Unholy Assassin, return to the main chamber of the Murder Tribunal. A new Echo will appear, just to the north. The Echo of Abazigal is a Dragonborn Bhaalspawn and he will have several items for sale meant to “aid in enacting your foul whims.”
You can find the Dread Iron Dagger in his store, but purchasing it will cost you 323 gold.
How to use Dread Iron Dagger in BG3?
The best way to use the Dread Iron Dagger in BG3 is by equipping it to a build that excels that stealth gameplay. Thief Rogues and Assassin Rogues are two of the best subclasses for these types of builds. Additionally, you need to become adept at strategically positioning your character in places where they can’t be easily seen. If a character becomes obscured you will see a little icon above their head. A fully white sun means they are not obscured at all. If there is a half-white/half-dark sun icon, then it means they are Lightly Obscured. An icon showing a fully hooded head means that you are Heavily Obscured.
Your Rogue and Ranger can obscure themselves by moving to a shadowy area or partially getting behind an environmental object that breaks an enemy’s line of sight. Finally, your character is also considered obscured while they are crouching to hide. So long as you stay outside of an enemy’s red cone of visibility and remain hidden.
