Vicious Shortbow

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Vicious Shortbow is a ranged weapon that can grant you additional damage on critical hits. The Dolor Amarus bonus grants the wielder an additional 7 points of damage anytime they land a Critical Hit with this bow. Therefore, the Vicious Shortbow would be a good weapon for a Rogue or Ranger to use from stealth, to increase their chances of landing a critical hit and getting the extra damage.

Unfortunately, this bow isn’t available until the late end-game of Baldur’s Gate 3 and there are more powerful bows you’ll likely want to prioritize. However, it could still be a decent backup ranged weapon for any character, even melee-focused builds.

Here are all the Vicious Shortbow features in BG3:

How to Get Vicious Shortbow in Baldur’s Gate 3

To get the Vicious Shortbow in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will need to become an Unholy Assassin to unlock the merchant that sells it, Echo of Abazigal. To become an Unholy Assassin, you need to discover the Murder Tribunal by following the Investigate the Murders quest. This is part of the larger quest to find Orin the Red, so while there are numerous steps they are likely tasks you would complete regardless.

To begin the Investigate the Murders quest visit the Open Hand Temple in Rivington at the start of Act 3. The other option is to placate Orin by taking out Gortash first. If you accomplish that, then she will give you the location and the password required for getting into the Murder Tribunal.

Once you have the password, head to Candulhallow’s Tombstones, remove the Skull painting off the wall in the back room, and press the button to reveal a secret door. This will lead you to the Murder Tribunal, where you will have to present evidence of a kill to prove you are worthy. Additionally, you will have to be willing to kill in cold blood to officially become an Unholy Assassin.

Finally, return to the main chamber where you first encountered the Murder Tribunal judge. You should now see a new NPC called the Echo of Abazigal. He will have several special equipment pieces for sale, including the Vicious Shortbow.
