Upgrading and refilling potions in Path of Exile 2 is a mechanic in the game that can prove useful in the heat of battle. Unlike some other RPGs, you don’t need to stack up on potions to fill your inventory. Instead, the refilling feature is there to allow you to use either HP or Mana Potions.

Exploring is key to refilling potions. If you are a new player, then you will have plenty of free refills by discovering new Waypoints or Checkpoints. You will also come across enemies while exploring. Defeat a few of them and you will gain a refill potion charge. While the former mode of exploration only lasts in the beginning phase of the game until you have discovered all the Waypoints, the latter is evergreen.

You can also use the said Waypoints to travel back to a town or settlement and interact with a Well. These wells will let you refill your potion charges.

As for Upgrading potions in Path of Exile 2, players need to take what their defeated enemies leave behind. So, the only way to “upgrade” the potions is to pick up ones that either provide better stats, have a higher number of recharges, recharge quickly, or provide additional buffs.

If you don’t already understand it yet, Potion Charges are the number written on the bottom right of the icon. These tell you how many times you can use that specific potion. So, before starting a quest, you must “refill” all the charges as we mentioned above.

Always remember, you can open your inventory to check the stats the potion(s) has. All you have to do is open the inventory and hover the cursor over a certain potion. This will reveal a few important things about it.

For example, you can know the number of maximum charges your current potion(s) can hold. Moreover, you can also see how many charges you currently have left. And if that’s not enough, you hover to check how much Life or Mana a particular potion gives you during each use. At last, also check how many charges each usage requires.

These will be useful for setting a strategy for how often you must recharge and which potion will be better for you to pick up.
