Dynasty Warriors Origins is a unique title that is not open-world but features a system that sets it apart from others in the same category.
Dynasty Warriors Origins throws you into lush green lands that reek of battle; you only need to seek them out. If you are a longtime fan of this series, Dynasty Warriors 9’s open world is something that you probably enjoyed a lot. Coming from that, the obvious question that arises is whether Dynasty Warriors Origins also features a similar open-world system.
Unfortunately, Dynasty Warriors Origins is not an open-world game. However, it takes a rather unorthodox approach. In this article, we will explore the Dynasty Warriors Origins overworld and how it offers a unique setting despite not being a strictly open-world game.
Why Is Dynasty Warriors Origins Not Open-World?
Dynasty Warriors Origins features a three-dimensional isometric world map view. By this, we mean that you can see a miniature version of the entire world and walk on it to reach any of the major towns, settlements, camps, or other places of interest. You do not find your path to these places in the open world of the game itself. To that extent, there is no “discover-on-sight” mechanic here. You do not really unearth new places but just traverse them via the map.
Gates to cities, any relevant structures, major NPCs, and mission markers will also be available on this map. More importantly, you can converse with the NPCs while roaming around on the map. The approach is unique and saves a considerable bit of time by letting you focus on the gameplay and strategizing only.
Imagine a giant three-dimensional layout of your entire country, with every state’s capital marked with some 3D buildings. You walk over the entire structure to reach whichever capital you wish to visit, and that’s about it. You do not need to travel via any mode of transport or find it yourself to begin with. That would be the same as the map of Dynasty Warriors Origins.
However, once you engage in a mission in any of the areas, your world will become much more reminiscent of an open-world setting, though linear in nature. The entire locale is then divided into stages, which you can reach by fast-traveling. During missions, you will need to devise a strategic movement plan to prevent your enemies from taking over.
As such, Dynasty Warriors Origins is not an open-world game. It is linear for the most part, though a few areas will remind you of the familiar open-world setting.
Are There Side Quests in Dynasty Warriors Origins?
Side quests are a key aspect of any open-world game. Despite Dynasty Warriors Origins not being an open-world game, it features certain side quests. However, these are twisted to fit the overall nature of the game. The side quests come in the form of peace restoration missions and additional missions. You might need to kill a certain person or get a certain number of kills with a specific weapon.
