Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 throws you into medieval Bohemia. It goes without saying that the medieval era was a bit of a mixed bag of lawlessness, and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s setting reflects that. You have to use every tool in the bag if you wish to survive in these lands, and the game’s Alchemy mechanic may be the most powerful yet complex of these tools.
Alchemy in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is used to craft potions, which in turn provide you with several benefits. These benefits can range from anywhere between stat-boosting potions to potions that help you recover. Crafting these potions, however, is another matter. The process requires you to find recipes, ingredients, and an alchemy bench. The process is a little complicated, and if you want to learn more about it, keep on reading below. In this guide, we shall go over everything you need to know about alchemy in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
Where To Find Alchemy Benches
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 prides itself on its realism, which is reflected in many of the game’s mechanics, including alchemy. You brew potions in the game much like you would in real life during the time period: using an alchemy bench. You need the recipes for the potions you wish to craft and then the ingredients required for the same.
With the ingredients in hand, head over to any of the alchemy benches in the world. The first of these benches is found in the hut in the tutorial section of the game. The second bench is in Troskowitz, next to Apothecary Emerich.

How To Use the Alchemy Bench
As you approach the bench, you will notice a large cauldron at the center. This is what you’ll be using to brew your potion. The cauldron’s height can be adjusted to alter the impact of the flames underneath. Alternatively, you can use the Bellows on the top left, which will control the flames underneath the cauldron and aid you in cooking. In the vicinity of the cauldron, you will find a variety of other tools and liquids. You will be using all of these items, but do not worry; they are fairly simple.
The Tools
Let’s go over the tools at hand first. The first thing you’ll see is the large recipe book. This book contains the recipes for all the potions in the game. You will be referring to this book while brewing your potions.
The hourglass to your right is used to give you a sense of time as you cook. Much like you keep track of time while boiling an egg, you must do the same while brewing a potion to ensure that it is cooked to perfection.
The Mortar & Pestle are used to grind the herbs into a powdered form, which are then mixed with liquid bases to give you your potions. A bowl nearby can also be used to store these herbs as you prepare the cauldron for brewing. The Phial nearby is used to pour the potion once the process is complete.
The last, and perhaps the most important of the items, are the liquid bases on the shelf. These liquids act as the base of your potion and give it that drinkable liquid form. These four liquids are Water, Wine, Oil, and Spirits. Water is a neutral base, while the other bases have more definitive uses. Wine is for medicinal and healing potions, courtesy of its alcohol contents. Oil is for protective mixtures, while Spirits are for preservation purposes.
Ingredients and Recipes
![Make sure to collect as many recipes as you can (Source: Deep Silver, Plaion)](https://static.deltiasgaming.com/2025/02/kingdom-come-alchemy-2.jpg)
The herbs are your main ingredients when brewing any potion in the game. Fresh herbs are recommended to brew the most potent potions. We recommend buying the herbs fresh from the Apothecary and then using them right away. If you do buy herbs and don’t use them, store them in the Drying Racks near the Alchemy Benches. These racks help preserve the freshness of the herbs for longer, allowing you to use them at a later time when needed.
Recipes, too, can be purchased from the Apothecary. You also find more recipes while exploring the world, completing quests, and by simply experimenting on the bench.
Brewing the Potion

Now that you know what the tools at hand are, it is time to get brewing. The first thing you need to do is open up your recipe book and pick out a recipe. The recipe will list the ingredients you need, the liquid base to use, and the preparation method in detail. Once you’ve selected your recipe, select the “Prepare” button, which will pick out the herbs for you and place them on the bench to your right.
Now, pour your liquid base into the cauldron. Make sure to pour the one as specified in the recipe. Next, add the herb ingredients. If they need to be in ground form, do so using the Mortar & Pestle. Once done, mix the ingredients with the liquid in the cauldron. Adjust the flames as needed using the Bellows, and keep track of the time using the Hourglass.
Once the potion is ready, use your Phial to extract the potion and bottle it. Follow through with distillation if the recipe demands so, and then bottle the potion.
