Birds of Prey is one of the most important missions in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Here is a guide on how to complete it.
Birds of Prey is one of the many side quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. It is one of the longest missions and is also related to the main story, making it one of the most important quests in the game. To gain access to this quest, you will need to have completed the Lackey side quest.
How to Complete Birds of Prey in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
The quest involves Henry being tasked by the gamekeeper he rescued during Lackey to track down and get rid of poachers who are hunting illegally. There are five poachers in total. You are not given their exact locations. Instead, you have to search inside a large area.
The First Poacher
The first poacher is located northwest of Vidlak Lake at an intersection of paths. Talk to him, and he will surrender. The poacher claims that he is hunting to sustain his family. Here, you have the opportunity to ask him a series of questions.
Once you go through all the dialogue options, you will have the choice of what to do with him. You can choose to arrest him and send him to the gallows. Alternatively, you can attempt a skill check to get him to stop poaching. This check should be successful so long as you are not at the lowest level. Finally, you have the nuclear option of murder.
These options affect your reputation with Vostatek the gamekeeper in various ways. Arresting the poacher gives you the highest amount of reputation while convincing him to stop reduces your reputation. Once you are done with the quest, head back to Vostatek and get the approximate location of the second poacher.
The Second Poacher
For the second poacher, you can choose to talk to the tanner and/or the fisherman and his wife located west of Vostatek’s house. The fisherman and his wife will tell you about a path behind their house lined with Pagan idols. Follow this path to a clearing and then keep following the idols north. Eventually, you will find the poacher near the center of the forest.
This poacher is less amenable than his predecessor but can be calmed down by a Speech or Dread Check. However, this check is unlikely to succeed unless either skill is at a high level. If you fail, the poacher will attack you, forcing you to either kill him or knock him out. If you knock him out, you can send him to the bailiff after he wakes up.
Once you return to Vostatek, he will send you to gamekeeper Varel who may have some more work for you. Once you reach Varel, he will give you information on more poachers.
The Third Poacher
Head to Troskowitz for this poacher. You can get a lead on this poacher by talking to the Gravekeeper in the East part of the village. He will point you towards Slatego forest.
In Slatego, you can find a half-built cottage with a camp to the southwest. At this camp, you can find the Poacher’s Knife inside a bag. If you have completed the Mutt side quest, you can ask Mutt to track down the poacher using the knife. Alternatively, you can follow the blood trails to your destination.
When you find the poacher, you will learn that he was killed by wolves. Loot the poacher and then head back to Varel.
The Fourth Poacher
The fourth poacher – or more accurately, poachers – are located Southeast of the lower Semine mill. You can talk to Kreyzl at the mill to get more information. In the woods, you will find a camp of three poachers.
The poachers will run away if they are too hurt, so there is no need to go too hard on them. Once you have obtained evidence of poaching, head back to Varel for the fifth and final poacher.
The Fifth Poacher
For the final poacher, Varel tells you that he is akin to a ghost who lurks near Trosky Castle. It is quite difficult to locate this poacher. Far to the northeast, there is a path that heads around Trosky Castle. Follow this path north, and just you start towards the west, you will see some cliffs. The “ghost” is located in the area underneath the cliffs.
As it turns out, the “ghost” is Hans. After you ask him some questions, you can ask about what you will tell the gamekeeper. Hans will give you an excuse to feed the gamekeeper. You can choose to either use this excuse or attempt a Speech Check to come up with something better.
Hans will give you some of his equipment to serve as proof of you having found the poacher. You can then return to Varel and either lie or tell him the truth. Telling the truth will upset Varel, and the quest will end. Alternatively, you can lie and Varel will believe you so long as you have Hans’ equipment. This will complete the quest.
Completing the quest will reward you with 80 Groschen, a Strong Aesop, a Marksman’s Kit, 3 Dried Deer Ribs, a Cobbler Kit, a Strong Aesop and a Strong Bowman’s Brew. You will also get to keep Hans’ equipment. You can sell it, hold on to it, or return it to Hans.
