Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is one of the most acclaimed RPGs of all time. In this game, there are many main quests that you have to complete to progress through the story. One of the more action-oriented main quests is the So It Begins mission, where you have to defend Suchdol from the Prague soldiers. Players might get overwhelmed by the waves of enemies and make mistakes.

This guide explains how to make it through the So It Begins main quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

This mission automatically starts when Dry Devil shoots Markvart von Aulitz with a crossbow during a standoff with the Prague army over the stolen silver from the Italian Court. This quest includes two large battles where you need to defend the castle, so proper preparation is very crucial beforehand. However, since the Oratores mission disables fast travel, you must make all necessary preparations in Suchdol.

The Prague army lines up before the castle and charges towards it. You have to stop them at all costs till they retreat. Pick up the halberd weapon near the staircase and go up the palisade walls. Use the halberd to push the ladders down one by one. Enemies will keep climbing, so defeat them quickly, as you can easily die once they surround you. Additionally, you can throw stones at them through the gaps on the palisade.

Your allies also help you push down the ladders, so all you need to do is focus on surviving till you have pushed down enough ladders. Once this sequence ends, a cutscene plays showing the Prague soldiers retreating. You can then rest up and sleep to recover your health.

Getting Supplies at Suchdol in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Once you wake up, speak with Godwin to prepare for the next siege. Before that, talk to three NPCs who can provide you with supplies for the upcoming battle, as you cannot go anywhere during this mission using fast travel. Follow the list below to get supplied:

  • Janosh: He can be found wandering around the castle. Talk to him and choose any dialogues as they won’t matter. He provides you with some food as he is the head of the food supplies in Suchdol. You can also eat the soup from the pot in the kitchen if you want to save the food for later.
  • Katherine and Musa: They can be found in the northwest corner of the inner courtyard. Go and talk to them about everything you can for medical supplies. This is an optional objective.
  • Frenzl: Talk to him for ammunition supplies, and he asks your help to sharpen two swords. This is optional and gains your reputation on completion. Pick up the two swords on the table beside him and sharpen them at the sharpening wheel. Give the swords back to Frenzl for some reputation.

Recruiting Men for Night Guard

Follow the marker on the map and talk with Zizka and Godwin. Zizka appoints you as a temporary commander and orders you to recruit men as night guards. Many markers appear on your map and visit them one by one to talk with me. Try to have a high presence, as passing skill checks can gain you a high amount of reputation.

Samuel and Kubyenka can be seen in the kitchen drinking together. Choose any option other than stopping them from drinking as that loses reputation. All the other dialogues result in them joining you as allies. Then, go to the southern side of the fort to talk to the rest of the men.

You can find Kozliek on the upper walls; go and talk to recruit him. Go down the stairs and talk to Knacker Wolfram to recruit him as well. Finally, go and find Jaroslav and Janek playing dice near the spot where you spoke to Frenzl, the blacksmith, to recruit them as well. This concludes everyone whom Zizka mentioned to recruit. Everyone you recruited gathers at the blacksmith, and here, you can give a huge speech to boost morale and gain reputation. You only gain reputation if you pass the skill check that requires Presence.

Before you rest up for the incoming battle, talk to Hans, standing near your room. Pass the skill check requiring a high Scholarship to gain reputation with him. Enter your room and rest up, which concludes this section of the So It Begins mission in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

The Night Raid Begins

Dry Devil wakes you to begin your rounds around the castle at night. You get the objective to check up on your guards at each of the marked locations. You don’t need to check all of them; head to the eastern marker, where a Prague soldier disguised as one of your own will ambush you. This begins the night raid of the So It Begins mission.

Like before, the enemies use ladders to climb up the castle that you need to knock down. Defeat any enemies that have managed to climb up. You have your allies with you, so try to take advantage of this. Attack enemies from behind when they are busy fighting your allies. Once the enemies retreat, go and meet up with Zizka at the drawbridge, where after a small talk, the So It Begins mission in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 concludes. Additionally, after a small cutscene, the next main mission, Besieged, starts immediately.
