This article will go through the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2′ Taking French Leave Mission. So without further delay, let’s save Lord Capon.
The “Taking French Leave” quest revolves around saving Lord Capon from his captivity. It is the eighteenth out of thirty-two quests in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. The quest takes place right after the “Via Argentum” mission, where you expose Vavak and convince Ruthard to help you in this endeavor. In the quest, players will have to find a secret underground passage that will lead Henry and his companions to Maleshov. Then, the players will have to sneak through the castle there to find Lord Capon.
If you are experiencing some problems with the mission, do not worry. We will go through the “Taking French Leave” quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 in this guide.
How To Complete the Taking French Leave Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
“Taking French Leave” starts as soon as you finish the “Via Argentum” quest. So, the first thing you will need to do is report back to the Ruthards in their palace. It is in the southern region of Kuttenberg. The gate will be guarded, so go there during the day and tell the guards that Lord Ruthard is expecting you. The guard will then take you to Kunzlin, Rosa, and Sir Oderin.
Tell them that you have proof of Vavak’s crimes, and Ruthard will agree to help you with the Lord Capon situation. Then, you and your companions will hatch a plan to rescue Hans Capon from Lord Von Bergow. Rosa will give you the information you need regarding the passage that will lead you to Malesov, as we discussed earlier.
Find the Passageway
Speaking to Rosa will unlock a side mission, and she will give you maps for the Maleshov Tower and Maleshov Fort. We must tell you that you will need a spade to find the passage, so make sure you have one on you. Now, you will need to speak to a guy named Hashtal. He will be northwest of Maleshov at a farm. Hashtal will give you a horse so you can escape out of Maleshov if needed.
Now that all the pieces are in place, it is time to find our secret passage. Earlier, Rosa told us that we should look for a small shrine next to a pile of stones that leads to a chapel. The shrine will be next to a crossroads in the objective area given on your map. Once you reach the shrine, you will instantly notice that the pile of stones Rosa mentioned is on the right side.
Follow the rocks to the chapel and then follow the path that leads to the ruins. You will be able to find the entrance to the passage area north of the search circle. It will be under a tree marked by a white cross, so it is pretty hard to miss.
If you look closely, you will notice that the top of the cross is pointing somewhere. Go in that direction, and you will stumble across another cross, which will then point you toward the final cross. Now, start digging, and you will find the entrance to a tunnel. Walk through the tunnel until you reach the end. There, you will have to interact with a wall and dismantle it. After that, jump over the wall, and it will trigger a cutscene. Now, you are inside the fortress where Hans Capon is.
Rescue Lord Hans Capon
You will find him at the top of the tower in the middle. If you listen to the guards carefully, they will reveal that the cook has the keys to the tower. To find the cook, you must take a right and then go straight until you come across a door. But be careful because there will be a guard there. You can either take him down stealthily or sneak past him—we will leave it up to you. Once you are through the door, take the staircase and go down. You will find another staircase with a door on the right side. Take the door and go outside, take two lefts, and you will find the kitchen. Choke the cook and take all her keys.
Now, our task becomes a bit difficult because the only way into the tower is through the door up the stairs on the east side. Follow the south wall to get there, but do not get caught. You can throw stones to distract any guard who blocks your way. Once you reach the stairs, open the door since you already have the keys. Once through the door, take the stairs up, and you will see two guards arguing with a woman. Wait for them to finish their conversation, then hide from the guards when they go downstairs.
Now, head upwards and enter through the door to your left. You will find a woman sitting there. You will find two swords in the room—take them because they will be important for your escape later. After that, go straight to the top floor, open the door to your left, and a cutscene will be triggered. After that, you will free Hans and Vauquelin Brabant. Give them the two swords you picked up earlier, or you will need to find them new weapons before progressing through the quest.
Escape From the Fortress
You will now need to sneak to the stables while Hans waits in the tower. They will be on the north side of the fortress. Make sure you do not get caught when making your way there. Again, resort to stealth and use stones to attract the guards. Once you are in the stables, light your torch to signal Hans that it is safe for him to approach. Shortly after, Hans and Vauquelin will join you. Remember that the guards might spot them on their way, so you can risk a fight or distract the guards.
Once everyone is at the stables, head to the big door and interact with it. Then, a cutscene will trigger, and all three of you will walk away from the fortress. Follow them for around six minutes, and you will get another cutscene where Hanush of Leipa and Radzig Koblya will meet you.
Tell them what happened, and then Radzig, Hanush, and Hans will go to a meeting in Raborsch. They will then send you to infiltrate the city council in Kuttenberg. This marks the end of the “Taking French Leave” quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
