Learn to play as Magik in Marvel Rivals to cut off enemy heals by stalking all of their Strategists effectively.
Magik is one of the brawler-type Duelists in Marvel Rivals. She can deal decent damage when up close to an enemy and even eliminate squishy characters pretty fast. However, she is not effective if you don’t know how to play using her. So, we are here with a short and quick guide to help you get rid of the enemy healers and support your team in a stressful match.

How To Play Magik in Marvel Rivals
Magik’s Survivability
Whether Magik is in her regular or Darkchild form, her base health is 250 by default. This makes her one of the most squishy characters on the roster. However, her Passive Ability, Limbo’s Might allows her to get her max HP up to 400 with the help of the bonus health that it grants. So, if Magik is outnumbered in a 2v1 situation, she can continue damaging her enemies using her Ability Kit to keep her health up for some time.
This will allow her to wait for her team to arrive. She is also invincible when using her Stepping Discs. So, even though her survivability is not as solid as Mister Fantastic‘s, I’d say it’s pretty good.
Magik’s Mobility
Since her role is that of a stalker of the enemy backlines, you will find that the Limbo Queen has great mobility. Her abilities and quick movement allow her to get in and out of situations pretty quickly. With the help of Stepping Discs, Magik can teleport to the backline from the cover and then move back to the cover when things get bad. However, her Umbral Incursion is often not seen as a traversal ability, which is a grave mistake.
If you don’t target an enemy, you can use that skill to dash forward in the direction you are looking and cover an impressive distance. When followed with Stepping Discs, she can scale tall buildings and even reach flying enemies like Storm and Iron Man.
Magik Playstyle and Combos
There are majorly two playstyles that you can use with Magik in Marvel Rivals. The first is facing the enemy frontlines, and the second is targeting the backline. Both of them require different strategies that we will discuss soon in brief, but one thing to note is that you will only be able to focus on one enemy at a time since Magik does not excel in crowd control like Moon Knight.
You can have various effective combos in this game, but something that is my go-to when playing as Magik is using animation-cancel to ensure that I get the upper hand in a 1v1. So, use your primary attack, followed by the Magik Slash (to animation-cancel), and then the primary again for that extra damage. Another combo, if you are not already using it, is a fully-charged Magik Slash, followed by the Umbral Incursion, and then a primary attack to finish things off.
You can use these combos for both the playstyles that we discussed above. Since neither of them includes good CC attacks, try focusing on just one player. If you are jumping the enemy frontline, try supporting your Vanguards by focusing on the character that they are focusing on. And if you are diving the backline, make sure not to divert your attention to other enemies and only continue damaging your target. In case the enemy Vanguards or divers notice you and come rushing back, make sure to escape using your Stepping Discs and leave behind the Demon’s Rage so it can continue damaging them as you escape.
Best Team Composition With Magik in Marvel Rivals
ROLE | CHARACTERS |
Vanguard | Doctor Strange/Magneto |
Duelists | Black Panther, Psylocke |
Strategists | Rocket Raccoon, Loki/Invisible Woman |
A team comp based around Magik will be slightly more offensive than usual. I tend to go for a balanced approach with two characters from each role. However, this time around, we will make sure to make the most use of the Disc Master team-up.
Both Black Panther and Psylocke can help improve their survivability and mobility with the use of this Disc Master team-up Ability. While Black Panther can dive into the enemy backlines and destroy their Strategists, Psylocke can mainly deal with the enemy frontline and Duelists at the front with the Vanguard. Magik, on the other hand, can support both of these Duelists as the situation requires.
A Strategist like Rocket Raccoon can heal from afar with his repair orbs secondary fire. He can also deploy a relay to revive his allies. Loki is also a great healer while also being an effective damage-dealer when needed. Lastly, Doctor Strange/Magneto both can provide shields to the backline or the diving characters in some cases to shield them from potential harm.
Magik Counters in Marvel Rivals
Despite her great mobility and survivability, Magik can be pretty easy to take down if you are attacking her from a range, have tanky base health, or jump on her in a group. The following characters can be a problem to Magik:
- Iron Man
- Storm
- Hawkeye
- Black Widow
- Hulk
- Thor
- Mister Fantastic
- Groot
- Psylocke
- Loki
- Scarlet Witch
- Cloak and Dagger
Iron Man and Storm can take to the skies and avoid most of Magik’s attacks. Unless you know the trick that we mentioned above, Magik will find it almost impossible to kill flying enemies.
Hawkeye and Black Widow can shoot from a great distance, and Magik can easily lose all health to their attacks or either be forced to retreat into cover.
Psylocke, Scarlet Witch, Cloak and Dagger, Mister Fantastic, and Loki can all deal decent damage to her at mid-range and quickly take her out. Chances are, they won’t surprise up close like most of the characters on this list, but if they keep their distance, they might make it out alive and teach her a lesson.
Lastly, Vanguards like Thor, Hulk, and Groot can survive a close-quarter encounter against Magik because of their tanky health. Thor and Hulk are both brawler types. So, they don’t need to worry about aiming when they are standing close. I didn’t put Venom on the list because he will need to aim right, and that can be difficult with Magik’s mobility. Why Groot, you ask? Well, he can build walls to trap and quickly eliminate Magik.
Tips and Tricks to Play Magik in Marvel Rivals
While we have covered most of the tips and tricks earlier, here are a few things that we may have missed out or feel like we should reiterate to give you a “Magikal” during your next gameplay:
- You can charge up your Magik Strike (secondary attack) to deal massive damage. Also, it’s a range attack that you can use on an unsuspecting enemy to have the upper hand during a match.
- Try sneaking to the backline to cut off enemy heals and support your team from a different angle rather than charge headfirst into the battle.
- When you are being hunted in a chase, try leaving behind your Limbo Demon after a Stepping Disc Ability to slow enemies down and gain some extra health on the way.
- Don’t hesitate to cancel attack animations because that will give you an edge over the enemies in battles.
- Whenever you are getting jumped and running is not the best option, especially while holding a point, try focusing on enemy healers and keep slashing around. This will allow you to stay alive for longer and also cut off their heals so your allies will have an easier time.
- Activate your Ultimate behind cover because it does not give you invincibility or bonus health. It is also pretty predictable, so you might die and waste your Ultimate if you activate it in front of enemies.
- If you want to reach a flying enemy or scale a building, look at the sky, use Umbral Incursion, and use Stepping Discs to launch yourself higher in the direction of the movement.
