Learn how to play as Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals. Here’s all you need to know about the small but effective Strategist.

Rocket Raccoon is one of the handful of Strategists currently available on the Marvel Rivals roster. Despite his little size and questionable maximum HP, he can be a force to reckon with. While I don’t claim him to be the best Strategist on the roster, he is certainly a useful fellow. Moreover, if you learn how to use him in a match effectively, you can rain down victories for you and your teammates.

How To Play Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals
Rocket Raccoon’s Mobility
The shortest member of the Guardians of the Galaxy moves the fastest among all his friends who are in Marvel Rivals right now. When it comes to his mobility, he can use his Jetpack Dash twice in quick succession before it needs a cooldown. So, if an enemy Jeff throws you off the map, you can use your two dashes to shoot yourself high up and then use the Flying Ace Ability to descend slowly into a safer spot.
Whenever in trouble, Rocket can also scale walls using his jetpack pretty quickly and use his erratic movements to shake off most pursuers if they are not adamant in their goals to eliminate him. He can also keep doing this until help arrives and he can finally get some heat off his back.
Rocket Raccoon’s Survivability
To balance this character, developers only gave him 250 HP. This is considered a “squishy” character. So, Hawkeye and Black Widow can one-shot him in most scenarios. However, if he stays at the back of the comp and keeps using his traversal, he can avoid death for a long time. And by “a long time,” I actually mean it. If you want, you can actually hold that point in Overtime long enough until your team arrives from spawn. So, his Mobility actually increases his survivability too.

Rocket Raccoon Playstyle and Combos
The developers drew the line for Rocket Raccoon by taking away his potential damage. Most players would probably like it if he had explosives at his disposal. However, he had to get nerfed one way or the other. This is why he has the least possible HP on the roster and minimal damage. So, there is only one playstyle that I can suggest to you.
First and foremost, stay at the back of your team. Don’t try to push ahead in most scenarios because you don’t have enough HP to tank all the damage that your frontline must be receiving. Try to find a spot away from the prying enemy eyes. This is because Rocket can continue shooting his repair spheres and heal his allies from afar. If an enemy penetrates your defenses or flanks you, stay close to a wall and use your wall run until help arrives. Try to outmanoeuvre the enemy so your Duelists or Vanguards can take care of them instead.
Lastly, restrict yourself from using your primary attack. I suggest this because Rocket Raccoon actually shoots marshmallows. In fact, his Ultimate also feels useless despite the fact that it is supposed to increase the team’s damage when in range. So, unless you are completely sure that you can take out an enemy, don’t fire upon them. You will only attract unwanted attention.
Best Team Compositions With Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals
ROLE | CHARACTERS |
Vanguards | Groot, Venom/Thor |
Duelists | The Punisher, Hela/Spider-Man |
Strategists | Jeff the Land Shark |
While team comp should be changed based on what strategy you can use to counter the enemy, I feel like this is the best team that Rocket Raccoon can have. There is a reason behind each character.
Groot can hold the point or defend his backline well enough, while Rocket can also sit on his shoulders to take reduced damage and heal everybody from a different angle. Venom or Thor, on the other hand, can continue diving the enemy backlines for that extra tension while Rocket heals them from a distance.
If you decide to stay at the back, The Punisher can stick with you and put his turret down for extra protection. You can also grant him an Ammo Overload to help keep the enemies in check. Apart from that, have Hela or Spider-Man on the team to ensure that the enemy Duelists are getting knocked out. These two can also activate Ragnarok Rebirth or Symbiote Bond team-up with Thor and Venom, respectively.
Lastly, having a Strategist as good and focused as Jeff the Land Shark will make up for the ideal scenario. Even though Rocket can heal from a great distance and from behind the covers, Jeff is more focused on granting quality heals rather than slow, overtime heals. So, he can fill in where Rocket is and also ride Groot’s shoulders for that extra support.
Rocket Raccoon Counters in Marvel Rivals

Here’s a list of characters who can be a problem for Rocket Raccoon:
- Spider-Man
- Iron Fist
- Iron Man
- Hawkeye
- Black Widow
- Black Panther
- Magik
- Peni Parker
All of these characters have different ways to counter Rocket Raccoon. Duelists like Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Magik, and Black Panther can easily get behind enemy lines and put an end to Rocket without the enemies even getting a chance to react to it. Characters like Black Widow and Hawkeye can one-shot him from afar if the raccoon is not careful enough. Lastly, Iron Man can use his basic attack to deal AoE damage even if Rocket is running around, and Peni Parker can place mines in suspecting areas to blast the rodent easily.
Tips and Tricks To Play Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals
We have mostly covered all the tips while discovering how to play as Rocket Raccoon effectively and what tactics to use. Let us reiterate some important points and cover all that we may have missed earlier:
- Stay behind covers and find a spot from where your healing orbs can bounce off to your enemies.
- Play close to walls or structures that you can climb immediately when jumped by an enemy.
- Don’t deal damage unless the enemy is at low health or you are sure you can take them out.
- Place the B.R.B. in a secure, covered spot to ensure that your teammates come back to life without much problem.
- Save your Ultimate until the enemies and your allies are all in one place. This will give your teammates an edge over the enemy when dealing damage.
- Lastly, try to pocket The Punisher or Winter Soldier so you can grant them that Ammo Overload whenever possible.
