Despite being a full-sized character, Mantis has a relatively small hitbox in Marvel Rivals. This character model, combined with her vicious Ability Kit makes her one of the most aggressive Strategists on the roster while also being among the best healers in the game. However, as you would think, she is not “perfect” or “broken” in any way. So, if you don’t know how to play Mantis in Marvel Rivals, you won’t benefit from picking this character. That’s what we are here to change.
Mantis’ Ability Kit in Marvel Rivals
ABILITIES | EFFECT |
Life Energy Blast (Primary) | Fire an energy thorn and regain one Life Orb after a critical hit. |
Soul Resurgence (Ultimate) | Release energy around her while moving, providing Healing Over Time and Movement Boosts for surrounding allies. Excess healing converts to Bonus Health. |
Spore Slumber | Throw a spore to Sedate the nearest enemy. |
Allied Inspiration | Consume Life Orbs to grant allies a Damage Boost. |
Natural Anger | Consume Life Orbs to grant herself a Damage Boost. |
Healing Flower | Consume Life Orbs to grant allies Healing Over Time. |
Nature’s Favor (Passive) | Receive a Movement Boost when not injured and Healing Over Time when consuming Life Orbs. |
Nature’s Soul (Team-up) | Adam Warlock enhances the rebirth power of Star Lord and Mantis, granting them the power of cocooned revival. |

How To Play Mantis in Marvel Rivals
Mantis’ Survivability
By default, Mantis has a base health of 275. This allows her to stand her ground in certain situations because to be a squishy character, she will have to have 250 health instead. However, she can still be easily sent back to her spawn with a well-placed headshot by ranged characters like Hawkeye and Black Widow. But what about her self-healing? Well, that’s a little complicated.
Mantis has four Life Orbs by default on the bottom of the screen right above the HP bar. Each orb charge has a 3s recharge which can be easily recovered with critical hits (headshots). Players then have to use the healing abilities (which cost Life Orbs to use).
Unfortunately, Mantis’ self-healing cannot be done using any abilities directly. She only has to rely on her Passive, Nature’s Favor. When you constantly use your Life Orbs, you can get Healing Over Time which is not that effective in every scenario because it takes time to heal you completely. However, if she has Adam Warlock on the team, she can revive herself safely to full health every 120s.
Mantis’ Mobility
![Marvel Rivals Mantis](https://deltiasgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Marvel-Rivals-Mantis-1.jpg)
Just like every other character in the game, Mantis’ base mobility is 6m/s (meters per second). However, her speed can climb up to 7.5m/s. This is when she is in full health. This passive ability makes her one of the quick escape characters and also somebody who can easily rush to point after respawning.
Apart from this passive, there is not much that Mantis can do to move quickly. Plus if she is in combat and gets injured, she will lose her movement buff. This makes her an easy target if the enemies know how to tackle her attacks easily. So, I don’t think her movement is that impressive.
Mantis Playstyle and Combos
As we mentioned above, Mantis is an “aggressive” Strategist. This role is not called a “Healer” for a reason, and that’s because they are supposed to be played strategically. Mantis, unlike most other characters in her role, cannot keep popping off heals. Instead, she needs to contribute to the team’s DPS output to be more effective.
The best part about this character is that there is no damage falloff to her primary attacks. So, you can even stay aggressive while being at the backline. The only “combo” you need to remember with her is to use Natural Anger and then keep counting headshots against enemies to help build those Life Orbs faster so you can do more damage and heal your allies.
Best Team Composition With Captain America in Marvel Rivals
ROLE | CHARACTERS |
Vanguards | Doctor Strange, Hulk |
Duelist | Star Lord |
Strategists | Adam Warlock, Rocket Raccoon/Loki |
We have kept a balance among Vanguards by keeping a supportive tank like Doctor Strange to defend the backline along with a Hulk to dive the enemies. If you don’t have anybody who plays Hulk, try picking another diving Vanguard. However, Strange would benefit from having Hulk due to their Team-up Ability.
We are going for three Strategists this time. Adam Warlock has incredible healing powers and his “Soul Bond” ability can help your team survive catastrophic Ultimates like that of Iron Man’s. He will also give Cocooned Revival to Mantis. But why stop at just one revival, everybody should get access to the same facility, and thanks to Rocket Raccoon‘s relay, more teammates can revive to full health.
Adam Warlock and Mantis can both contribute greatly to DPS output of the team while also healing their teammates. However, we will also keep a hybrid Duelist who can switch his roles as a healer-assassin and Vanguard-killer to and fro as needed. This job will be done by Star Lord who will also have the cocooned revival thanks to Warlock.
Mantis Counters in Marvel Rivals

In most scenarios, Mantis will hardly ever die directly because she is at the backline. So, most of the time, she is either flanked and dove by an enemy or dies because no other team member is left to save her. However, the following characters hard-counter Mantis in most scenarios:
- Iron Fist
- Hawkeye
- Venom
- Hulk
- Adam Warlock
- Star Lord
- Magik
- Scarlet Witch
A diving Duelist like Iron Fist can use his barrage of punches to humble Mantis quickly before she has a lot of time to react. Although Magik lies in the same category, she can’t attack with the same speed. The best part about her character is the damage that she can deal to the enemy Mantis in a short time.
Hawkeye is a ranged Duelist who can easily one-shot Mantis with a headshot and prevent her from causing further chaos. Mid-ranged Duelists like Scarlet Witch and Star-Lord can easily take out Mantis while also keeping pressure on the enemy back line. Adam Warlock has an impressive fire rate and damage that can easily put down Mantis.
Lastly, diving Vanguards like Venom and Hulk have large enough health pools to withstand all of Mantis’ tricks and still come out victorious.
Tips and Tricks to Play Mantis in Marvel Rivals

If you think you already know too much about Mantis, think again! There are a few tricks that we hadn’t included until now. Without these tricks, your Mantis may not be as effective as the enemy’s. So, without further ado, let’s cut to the important bits:
- Use Spore Slumber at your own feet when you are getting dove by brawling divers like Iron Fist and Black Panther. This Ability has a sufficient radius to sleep enemy divers even if they are in close proximity to you.
- Always use one Life Orb to enable the Natural Anger first. This will allow you to contribute more to your team than you realize. Also, you will eventually get more orbs to heal others.
- Always damage-boost your allies along with healing if they are in a critical situation.
- Keep your Ultimate saved for critical moments, and don’t use them in a 1v1 or 1v6 either because you can’t survive against an entire team anyway.
- Similarly, save the Adam Warlock Team-up “Nature’s Soul” for critical times because it has a fairly lengthy cooldown, which doesn’t get reset after each death.
- Your primary attack doesn’t have a falloff. So, you don’t have to necessarily be at the forefront to be aggressive.
