Best Features and Changes Made in Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.70.22 Preview

1.) Chicken Variants

The temperate chickens are perhaps the highlight of this experimental build. This adds two variants of chickens that will spawn on specific biomes. Brown chickens and eggs can appear in warm biomes, while blue chickens and eggs can spawn in cold biomes. This makes chickens more diverse, allowing you to encounter different breeds as you go out and explore the world.

2.) User Interface Revamp

The user interface in the game gets a much-needed makeover in the Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.70.22 Beta preview. Aside from fixing the typos and inaccuracies in the encyclopedia, the Screen Safe area also gets a few tweaks. It now disables horizontal and vertical screen position sliders if it is set at 100%. This prevents unnecessary clipping on the menu.

Other key improvements include breaking down long texts on the start screen into two lines to make them more readable. Additionally, the logo has been scaled down to make room for the Friends drawer button. Furthermore, a few minor add-ons, like more loading tips for creative mode, are also implemented in this experimental build.

3.) Cactus Flower

The Cactus Flower is a new addition to the game’s naturally generating flora. This flower can spawn above a cactus within desert and badland biomes. The cactus flower has a few uses, like crafting a Pink Dye or filling up a composter. In order for this new flower to spawn, it needs to meet the following condition:

  • The cactus flower has a 10% chance of growing if the cactus is one or two blocks high.
  • There is a 25% chance of the cactus flower spawning if the cactus is three blocks high.
  • Cactus flowers will only grow if they have space on all four sides.

Despite its limited functionality, the Cactus Flower brings a touch of life to the typically barren desert landscapes of Minecraft.

4.) Tall and Short Dry Grass

Another addition to the game’s flora is tall and short dry grass, which grows in desert and badland biomes. While they don’t serve many practical purposes beyond filling a composter or acting as short-term furnace fuel, they help add more character to these biomes, much like the Cactus Flower.

If you have a base in the desert, sheep can eat dry grass to regenerate their wool. This is by far the best use for this new plant in Minecraft. Additionally, you can also use bonemeal on dry grass to make it grow and spread further in the ground.

5.) Animals Now Have Biome Tags

Considering how some animals now have their own cold and warm variants, Mojang adds the appropriate tags to the biomes and their respective biomes. This allows temperate animals to spawn with the right variant in each biome.
