Potions in Minecraft are incredibly helpful in various situations. There are a total of 15 different potions, each offering unique effects such as healing, strength, invisibility, and more. Moreover, all potions are further divided into three types—Normal, Splash, and Lingering.

Normal potions are used for their inherent effect, Splash potions are thrown to deal area-of-effect (AoE), and Lingering potions can also be thrown to apply an effect over a certain radius for a specific time. Here is the complete guide on how to make potions in Minecraft, along with the complete list of all potions and their ingredients.

Making potions follows a process of several steps and here are all the steps in brewing potions in Minecraft:

  • You need a Brewing Stand for making potions. Place three cobblestones horizontally and a Blaze Rod at the top of the middle cobblestone to craft a Brewing Stand.
  • In addition to the Brewing Stand, Water Bottle, Blaze Powder (Fuel), and Nether Wart (Ingredient) are other essential ingredients for the brewing process. They are used to create Awkward Potion, the base ingredient for almost all potions.
  • The Awkward Potion can be brewed with various ingredients to get different effects meaning different potions. For instance, using Spider Eye as the ingredient with Awkward Potion gives you the Potion of Poison.
  • The next step is the modifiers. Combining these ingredients with potions enhancements or modifies the potions.
    • Glowstone Dust: Enhance the effect level but reduce its duration.
    • Redstone: Extends the duration of the effect
    • Gunpowder: Turns the potion into Splash potion.
    • Dragon’s Breath: Turns Splash potion into Lingering potion
    • Fermented Spider Eye: Modifies the potion by reducing or inverting the effect, necessary for creating some potions such as Potion of Invisibility and Potion of Harming. This process is also called ‘Corruption’.
