You need a Brewing Stand for making potions. Place three cobblestones horizontally and a Blaze Rod at the top of the middle cobblestone to craft a Brewing Stand.
In addition to the Brewing Stand, Water Bottle, Blaze Powder (Fuel), and Nether Wart (Ingredient) are other essential ingredients for the brewing process. They are used to create Awkward Potion, the base ingredient for almost all potions.
The Awkward Potion can be brewed with various ingredients to get different effects meaning different potions. For instance, using Spider Eye as the ingredient with Awkward Potion gives you the Potion of Poison.
