If you are looking for ways to get diamonds in Minecraft, here is where you can find them and some tips on how to find more underground.
Knowing where to find Diamonds is crucial while playing Minecraft. It is one of the rarest minerals in the game and also the hardest to find if you have just started your survival playthrough. Diamonds have a lot of purpose in the game and are also a requirement to make an enchantment table that makes surviving more bearable.
Fortunately, Diamonds spawn in a predetermined chunk level. This means you just have to reach a certain underground level to start searching for them. However, they still spawn randomly in that location, so you will need to do a bit of exploring. Additionally, you can also find these rare minerals in treasure chests and villages.
Here is what you need to know about where to find Diamonds in Minecraft.
What Is the Best Y Level To Find Minecraft Diamonds?
For Minecraft 1.8 and later, you can find diamonds between layers -50 to -64. However, you usually find an abundance of these resources around layer -58. However, due to the large number of lava pockets in this area, I recommended exploring cave level -53 instead. This area is just above lava pockets. However, it is still easier if you can find a large cave system as most of the ores in there are already exposed, making it easier to find diamonds in caves than strip mining hundreds of stones.
If you are playing version 1.17 and below, you can find diamonds in levels 5-12. This is because the recent update changed the size of underground levels in the game. It also introduced much bigger cave systems, which are good for finding rare minerals. However, it is swarming with monsters due to low light levels.
Other Ways To Find Diamonds in Minecraft
Villages
Villagers like the Blacksmiths, Armorer, and Toolsmith can sell diamonds for emeralds. However, you might need to trade with them a bit more to unlock more of their stocks.
Treasure Chests
Shipwrecks can contain a buried treasure map. Find these treasure chests and you might find diamonds in there along with other rare loots like the Heart of the Sea.
Biome Temples
Temples found in biomes like Dessert and Jungle also have a chance to spawn a diamond in one of their chests. However, you need to be extra careful as each of them has deadly traps, especially in the Dessert biome.
Mineshafts Chests
You can also find diamonds in mineshafts found underground in your Minecraft world. Additionally, it could also contain rare items like golden apples.
Trial Chamber Pots
Breaking pots in the Trial Chambers can randomly drop diamonds. If you are lucky, it might also drop a block of diamonds.
Best Way to Mine Diamonds in Minecraft
There are a lot of ways you can mine and find diamonds in Minecraft. However, Strip Mining, also known as Branch Mining, is arguably the best method if you wish to mine for diamonds in Minecraft and get stones for your builds. Here is how you can do it.
- Press F3 To Check Coordinates
- Dig Down to Between-50 to -64
- Make a Small Room To Place Chests
- Dig a 2×1 Tunnel or 1×1 Tunnel
- Dig Forward As Far as You Can
- Dig Another Hole and Repeat Steps 4 and 5
More information about each step can be found below.
Press F3 To Check Coordinates
You first have to know how deep you need to mind down to find the best location for diamonds. Check your coordinates by pressing F3 on your keyboard. You can find the XYZ coordinates in the second section.
Dig Down to Between -50 to -64
Dig down to level -53, the recommended layer to start strip mining and find diamonds in Minecraft. You can go lower to -58 but you will have to deal with lava pockets which can be annoying. You also risk dying if you get hit with lava.
Make a Small Room To Place Chests
Dig a square room where you can place your chests for storage. You will need a lot of storage as you will be mining a large variety of blocks. Most of the blocks you will be mining are Deepslates. They are nice for building houses or roof designs.
Dig a 2×1 Tunnel or 1×1 Tunnel
You can choose to dig a 2×1 tunnel which is much easier to manage. A 1×1 tunnel is more efficient but it can be annoying to pull off as you need to be crouching in order to get inside the hole.
Dig Forward As Far as You Can
Once you have decided on what kind of tunnel you want to make, you need to start digging as far as you can. If you find a cave, you can explore it. It’s much easier to find diamonds in caves as they are already exposed. However, make sure you are prepared and bring enough food, proper armor, and weapons.
Dig Another Hole and Repeat Steps 4 and 5
Once you think you have done enough digging on a tunnel, go back to your position and dig another tunnel two blocks away from the tunnel you previously made. You can just repeat these steps until you find enough diamonds in Minecraft.
