Capcom has shared a brief premise for Monster Hunter Wilds, stating:

“Several years ago, a boy named Nata was discovered near the border of the Forbidden Lands, an uncharted region believed by the Guild to be uninhabited. Nata recounts how his village was attacked by a mysterious monster. In response, the Guild has organized an expedition to investigate.”

This sets the stage for the game’s exploration of the Forbidden Lands, a new and mysterious region, and the quest to uncover the fate of Nata’s people and the nature of the monster that attacked them. Apparently, this region does have inhabitants. There are various villages scattered throughout ecosystems with their own culture and ways of living.

That is where the information about the story of Monster Hunter Wilds ends, for now. We can expect more information once the game releases on February 28, 2025.

Now, we dive into the leaks shared by dataminers. The information is a bit long so here is a summarized version for you.

Unverified Leaks and Story Speculation for Monster Hunter Wilds

According to leaks from Reddit from the user RoseKaedae, the potential narrative revolves around Nata and his people, the Keepers. They are allegedly direct descendants of an ancient civilization known as the Artians. This ancient civilization was technologically advanced and created a powerful device called the Dragon Torch.

This device was said to be capable of manipulating energy, altering weather conditions, and even generating artificial lifeforms known as The Guardians. These artificial monsters, once servile beings, were placed into dormancy after the collapse of the Artian civilization, or so everyone thought.

Arkveld, the Rogue Guardian

The attack on Nata’s village was allegedly caused by Arkveld. This creature is a rogue Guardian that had been imprisoned rather than dormant like the others. Nata’s journey, alongside the Avis Unit, leads him through various regions of the Forbidden Lands. He and the crew eventually meet different tribes and civilizations with distinct relationships to the land and its creatures.

Over time, the crew eventually discovers a deeper understanding of Arkveld’s existence and purpose. To the crew’s dismay, they were eventually left with no choice but to put the creature down. This is because it became a danger to itself as well as the local ecosystem.

The Climax of the Story

Following this, the crew discovers that the Dragon Torch is malfunctioning, causing severe weather anomalies across the Forbidden Lands. The leaks suggest that Nata’s pendant, made of crystallized Wyvern Milk, may hold the key to stabilizing or destroying the Torch. The climax of the story revolves around Zotia, a colossal artificial lifeform feeding off the Torch’s energy, which the hunters must ultimately defeat to restore balance. This could possibly be the end-game boss for Monster Hunter Wilds.

But that’s not the end of the story. According to the leaks, Arkveld was able to lay eggs which could be a hint that we won’t be seeing the last of this creature’s kind anytime soon. It’s a bitter-sweet ending to the story of Arkveld who may have only wanted to live a normal life despite being an artificial lifeform.

If these leaks hold true, Monster Hunter Wilds could be exploring deeper sci-fi elements than previous entries. The game delves into the consequences of ancient civilizations tampering with nature. The overarching themes appear to focus on the clash between technology and ecology, the consequences of playing god, and the burden of history passed down through generations. However, you should keep in mind that this are all just information from leaks. The game might go on a different path or have slight variations of the story.
