Monster Hunter Wilds is an incredibly content-rich title, which shouldn’t come as a surprise if you’re a veteran of the series. However, if you’re a newcomer to the Monster Hunter franchise, you might think the main story is all the game has to offer. However, Monster Hunter’s main story acts sort of like a tutorial. The real “meat and potatoes” of any Monster Hunter experience is its endgame, with Monster Hunter Wilds being no exception.

In fact, the latest title comes with what is arguably the most engaging and robust endgame in a base Monster Hunter game on release. However, the game doesn’t really do a great job of explaining the nitty-gritty of the endgame.

Here’s everything you need to know about Monster Hunter Wilds’ endgame and everything that unlocks after completing the main story.

Monster Hunter Wilds Endgame Content

Monster Hunter Wilds’ endgame starts right after you finish the main story in High Rank. Do note that High Rank starts after the credits, following the quest Monster Hunter. High Rank consists of roughly 15-20 hours of content, depending on how much additional grinding and how many side quests you do. Once you finish the High Rank quest What Lies Ahead, you’re given full access to the endgame content. On the surface, the endgame in MH Wilds is fairly similar to the High Rank progression. However, there are a few new additions, such as the dynamic map cycling (weather), highest-tier Artian Weapons, and most importantly, the Tempered Monsters and Investigations.

The bulk of the endgame comprises Investigations, which are also the only way to fight the Tempered Apex Monsters. And you do want to fight the Tempered Apex Monsters since they are the best sources of the highest rarity Artian Parts. Here’s a look at everything that’s part of Monster Hunter Wilds’ endgame.

Tempered Monsters

Tempered Monsters are essentially the main attraction of the endgame. As you’re going through the High Rank quests, you will find the regular Large Monsters showing up in their Tempered variants. However, it is only in the endgame that you will find Tempered variants of Apex Monsters, i.e., Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, Jin Dahaad, and Arkveld.

Furthermore, the Tempered Apex Monsters also come with significantly better rewards compared to the regular Tempered Monsters. But you might be wondering, what are Tempered Monsters, and what sets them apart from their regular counterparts? Well, Tempered Monsters are essentially more powerful versions of a monster.

The game’s story justifies the Tempered variants as those monsters that have been hardened by the constant battle for turf. As a result, these monsters have become much more powerful and aggressive. There are also different tiers of Tempered Monsters based on their strength:

  • 3-star strength
  • 4-star strength
  • 5-star strength

The 5-star strength monsters are significantly more challenging to fight, but defeating them rewards you with the best possible loot. Furthermore, if you’re looking for Decoration and Artian Part farming, the 5-star strength Tempered Apex Monsters are the best option.

Artian Weapons

Artian Weapons unlock fairly early in the High Rank campaign. However, it is only in the endgame that you get to use this system properly. The Artian Weapons are essentially custom weapons that you can craft for all elemental and status effects, depending on your build. To craft these special weapons, you require Artian Parts. This is where the Tempered Monsters come into play. Artian Parts are obtained exclusively from Tempered Monsters. Furthermore, if you want the best Artian Parts, i.e., of Rarity 8, the best way to obtain them is by hunting the Tempered Apex Monsters. The Artian Weapons open up a whole new option for you to customize your build.

If you’re crafting a Rarity 8 Artian Weapon, you get access to three Level-3 Decoration slots, which, when mixed with the multi-skill Jewels, gives you plenty of legroom to create the most powerful endgame build. Additionally, Artian Weapons can also be upgraded up to five levels. Maxing out an Artian Weapon also changes its appearance, giving it a more sinister mechanical look.

Map Cycling and Investigations

Once you reach the endgame, the open-world map (including all the regions, except for Suja and Wounded Hollow) will dynamically cycle its weather conditions. And with each changing weather, the game will cycle the monsters roaming the open world. Instead of having a set amount of quests, this dynamic map-cycling system lets you create your own Investigations.

You can also save previously completed Investigations by paying a small amount of Guild Points. Doing so allows you to repeat that Investigation up to three times. Although the system labels the quests as “Investigations,” you don’t have to actually do any tracking, as seen in Monster Hunter World.

Instead, it’s a straightforward hunting quest, which you can also play in co-op, provided your friends have also reached the endgame.

Post-launch Content

In addition to all this, the endgame also serves as the backbone of everything Capcom plans to release for Monster Hunter Wilds post-launch. In fact, the publisher has already confirmed two major new additions that will be coming to the game with the first Title Update – the Gathering Hub and a new monster, Mizutsune. Furthermore, in a recent post made by the official Monster Hunter account on X, Capcom confirmed that another monster is planned for TU1, which will be even more challenging than the Tempered Monsters.
