The Like a Fire Hidden by Sand Event quest is now live in Monster Hunter Wilds. The quest offers an exclusive cosmetic reward that you won’t want to miss out on. Event quests are essentially timed Hunting Requests that cycle every other week. Completing these quests rewards you with either a unique armor piece or an easier way to farm some rare resources, such as Decorations, Armor Spheres, etc. The Like a Fire by Sand quest requires you to hunt a High Rank Rathian for an exclusive headpiece. The quest isn’t particularly challenging, especially if you’re already in the endgame. However, if you’ve yet to reach the endgame and haven’t invested in armor and weapon upgrades, hunting down a Rathian can be quite challenging.

Requirements for the Like a Fire Hidden by Sand Event Quest in Monster Hunter Wilds
The Like a Fire Hidden by and is a High Rank quest that’s available to players who have reached Hunter Rank (HR) 9 and above. Since you technically finish the Low Rank main story at Hunter Rank 8, the Event quest will be available as soon as you reach High Rank. The only requirement here is that you must have completed the first main story quest in High Rank, i.e., Capturing a Yian Kut-Ku. Once you complete the first High Rank quest, you will hit HR 9 and can start the Event quest. However, we highly recommend against doing the Event quest at HR 9, especially if you’re new to the Monster Hunter series, and are yet to fully grasp the game’s combat system.
While Rathian isn’t a challenging monster, it is still a significant step up compared to everything in Low Rank. Not only does the Flying Wyvern hit hard, but it is also incredibly agile and can inflict both Poison and Fireblight. Furthermore, due to its thick hide, the Rathian is also impervious to flinching, unless you’re using a heavy weapon. For these reasons, we recommend doing the Event quest once you’ve at least hit HR 21 and crafted a powerful enough build for High Rank.

- Complete Low Rank.
- Complete the first main story quest in High Rank.
- Reach Hunter Rank (HR) 9.
Do note that just like the previous event quests, Like a Fire Hidden by Sand is available only for a limited time. The Event quest and its associated rewards will be live till April 1, 2025.
Tips To Easily Complete Like a Fire Hidden by Sand Event Quest
The Like a Fire Hidden by Sand quest sees you fight a regular High Rank Rathian in Windward Plains. For this quest, make sure to carry Flash Pods and Nulberies, which will make it much easier to tackle the Rathian. Much like the previous Monster Hunter titles, the Rathian in Monster Hunter Wilds is a dialed-down version of Rathalos. However, one major distinction between the Rathalos and the Rathian this time around is the latter’s ability to inflict Poison. Thankfully, the Rathian doesn’t stay in midair for as long as the Rathalos does. However, to make up for that, it periodically inflicts the Hunter(s) with Poison, which gradually decreases HP for roughly 30 seconds.
To counter the Poison, you can use a Nulberry. Furthermore, the Rathian is also prone to Stun. This is where the Flash Pod comes into play. As soon as you see the Rathian flying up in midair, firing a Flash Pod will immediately cause it to come crashing down. This gives a free opportunity to dish out damage and create wounds. As for Elemental weaknesses, Rathian is weak to Dragonblight. Furthermore, the monster’s head, wings, and tail are its weak spots. These are also areas that are prone to wounds.
The trick to defeating the Rathian is staying on the defensive and only attacking when there’s an opening. You can create your own opening by using Traps or the Flash Pod trick. Furthermore, wounds are a great way to deal both raw and elemental damage. The weapons that are most effective against the Rathian are:
- Great Sword
- Charge Blade
- Switch Axe
- Dual Blades
- Hammer
- Long Sword
- Gunlance
Rewards for Completing Like A Fire Hidden By Sand Event Quest
Completing the event rewards you with a small bounty of Armor Spheres, Decorations, and most importantly, the Expedition Headgear Ticket. The Expedition Headgear Ticket is the Event-specific reward for Like a Fire Hidden by Sand. It’s used to craft the Expedition Headgear.
