Here is a guide on the multiclass potential of the Hexblade, which is one of many subclasses in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Warlocks in Baldur’s Gate 3 normally have access to three subclasses. These are the Fiend, the Archfey, and the Great Old One. However, Patch 8 of the game is bringing with it some major additions. One of these is a new subclass for each of the classes.

For Warlocks, this new subclass is the Hexblade. In this subclass, your pact is made with an entity from the Shadowfell. It gifts you with a sentient weapon made of shadows, the namesake of the subclass. This class has many features that make for a unique Warlock.

Starting at level one, Hexblade offers you proficiency with medium armor, shields, and martial weapons. You can also use your Charisma modifier in place of Strength or Dexterity when using weapons you are proficient with.

Also, you can bind weapons you are wielding in your main hand. This makes you proficient with them and makes them magical. Additionally, there is a 20% chance to curse the enemy when attacking with your bound weapon. This gives you a damage bonus against the cursed enemy equal to your proficiency bonus. You can also land a critical hit on a roll of 19 as well.

At the fifth level, you gain an extra attack. Next, when you get to the sixth level, you can raise your fallen cursed enemies as spectres. At the 10th level, you can, as a reaction, nullify an attack by a cursed enemy against you. This has a 50% chance of success.

You also gain access to several extra spells such as Shield or Elemental Weapon. These are quite useful in many situations and increase the versatility of the Warlock quite significantly.

How Good is The Hexblade’s Multiclass Potential in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Hexblade has excellent synergy with other Charisma-based classes like Sorcerer, Bard, and Paladin. For Sorcerers and Bards, dipping into Hexblade gives them a weapon-based option for combat. Since it scales off of Charisma, they do not need to invest in Strength or Dexterity and can still be effective in combat. Also, Hexblade gives proficiency in shields and medium armor, enhancing survivability without sacrificing their spellcasting.

Paladins, on the other hand, are the most effective multiclass for Warlocks in general. Paladins are already melee powerhouses, and Hexblade can push them even further. Hexblade allows them to invest fully in Charisma instead of splitting between Strength and Charisma.

The Hexblade’s Curse also helps increase the damage against a single target by adding your proficiency bonus and reducing the critical threshold by one. This significantly increases the potential burst damage of the Paladin’s Smites.

In general, putting about five levels into Hexblade can create some excellent synergy with the Paladin class. However, in the end, the decision is yours to make as you choose. That was the complete multiclass potential of the Hexblade in Baldur’s Gate 3.
