PC users have a choice while playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard to either play using a controller or mouse and keyboard. While it mostly comes down to whatever you feel more comfortable with, some games are easier to play with either one of these input methods.

Console users don’t typically fly with this choice system. So, if you are the lucky one in your gaming circle who plays on PC and is wondering how to best play the game, let us present you with both choices .

Understanding the Control Mapping in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

The game has a big control scheme with multiple actions that you will need to engage in regularly as an RPG player. As far as the basics go, the keyboard will let you use the WASD keys to walk around, block with Q, and use potion with R. You can dodge/roll with Space. Use the mouse to move the camera around. Left click for light attack, click left, and press Shift together for heavy attack. Lock-on or takedown can be done using the middle mouse button. Fire from the hip using the right click. Apart from this, player skills are assigned to keys 1, 2, and 3, while the number 4 key is for special ability by default. The companion skills are also a combination of the Ctrl button mixed with these number keys.

The mapping is understandably different for a controller.

Use the left stick for player movement and the right stick to control the camera. You can block using L1/LB. Use Square/X for light attacks and Triangle/Y for heavy ones. X/A to Jump and O/B to dodge or roll. R2/RT is for hip fire. Player skills are a combination of buttons paired with L2/LT. Same for the companion skills, except that the L2/LT are now paired with the keys on the D-Pad. In this sense, the controller seems much more complicated for The Veilguard when compared to the keyboard and mouse setup.

If you are using a keyboard and a mouse, the player skills and abilities, companion skills, and other actions have dedicated keys that don’t overlap as much. So, if you are looking for a simpler control scheme, opting to go for a keyboard and mouse may help you enjoy more.

Does Dragon Age: The Veilguard Support PS5 DualSense Controller on PC

The short answer is yes. The latest Dragon Age game developed by BioWare will let you use a PS5 DualSense Controller. If you own one, connect it to your PC, and you are good to go. Moreover, you don’t have to connect it to the Steam Input software. The game already supports input from the DualSense. The same goes for the Xbox series X/S controllers.

Note that the game doesn’t work with a DualShock controller because The Veilguard is not a PS4 game. So, you might want to try the Steam Input if you wish to play the game on the PC using your DualShock.

However, the good old keyboard and mouse remain reliable when playing this game due to the reliance on multiple controls that the game offers.
