MoistCr1TiKaL announced that he is retiring from chess and does not want to play the game anymore due to his addiction.

Charles White Jr, better known as penguinz0 or MoistCr1TiKaL, announced his retirement from chess. The YouTuber claimed that he was too addicted to the game and spent five hours a day learning strategies and practicing. He wants to take a break as he finds the game frustrating considering he was unable to climb the Chess.com online competitive ladder.
MoistCr1TiKaL talked about how his favorite moment during his time with chess was defeating Twitch streamer Felix “xQc” Lengyel in six moves at an official event. While the YouTuber participated in official events, he never won any of them.
Cr1TiKaL compared his chess “obsession” with League of Legends’ ranked experience. He claims chess is more frustrating than League of Legends because there are no teammates to push the blame on. Many chess content creators and the official Chess.com YouTube account expressed their disappointment at MoistCr1TiKaL’s retirement in his comments section.
Why Is MoistCr1TiKaL Retiring From Chess?
During MoistCr1TiKaL’s “Why I Retired from Chess’ YouTube video, he speaks about why he is retiring at the 1:14 mark:
“It (playing chess) was just taking its toll on me. I was just constantly chasing the high from the f*cking chess tournament where I made history with the throbbing checkmate against xQc in six moves. That was my version of that dude that peaked in high school playing quarterback for the state championship.”
The YouTuber talked about how he was obsessed with chess to the point he would spend over five hours with chess. He claimed he was so addicted he was learning chess theories and playing on the online competitive Chess.com ladder.
“It (Chess) was like when I was hard addicted to League of Legends. League of Legends is a game that you put time and time and time into it and you achieve nothing. You waste time of your day and that sh*t feels so bad, you waste so much fo your time. You are now backwards from where you want to go.”
MoistCr1TiKaL compared chess with other games and said chess was frustrating because he could not push the blame on others. He found the experience frustrating and was unable to improve. The game made him seemingly “miserable” which is why he is retiring.
