Release Date and Platforms
After months of waiting and hype following a stellar (and now retired) demo, developer Professor Space Games took to social media to announce the release date for Things Too Ugly earlier last month. Posted on the Baltoro Games YouTube account, the release date trailer reveals that Things Too Ugly is set for release on January 16, 2025.
Things Too Ugly is set for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. The game will not be released on last-gen hardware, to the dismay of many players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There is no news of a port of the game hitting the last-gen platforms either.
PC Requirements
The developers have also revealed the minimum spec requirements to run Things Too Ugly on PC. The game is fairly easy to run, courtesy of its visual art style and simple gameplay loop. The game’s minimum PC requirements are as follows:
- Operating System: Windows 8 or later required.
- Processor Requirements: Intel Core Duo
- Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 630 or higher.
- Storage Space: 576 MB
- Sound Card: Standard Sound Card
Setting
Things Too Ugly takes you on a trip to the past, set against the Mississippi River in 1986. A puzzle game at heart, Things Too Ugly utilizes the 1986 time period to bring you retro PCs, floppy disks, and various other technologies that will play a role in the game’s puzzles. The time period also allows the game to boast a unique aesthetic, playing on the nostalgia of the 80s. The game then twists the nostalgia against you through means of environmental horror and a “tense, interactive story.”
