Some weapons stand the test of time and become a part of gaming culture. Here are the five most iconic weapons in all of gaming.
Video games are home to some of the most iconic weapons of all time. From Devil May Cry’s Yamato to Halo’s Energy Sword, there is no shortage of weapons that have captured the attention of players for years.
However, among all of these many, many weapons, some stand above the rest. Weapons so famous that they are practically synonymous with their franchise and gaming as a whole. In this list, we will be ranking five of the most iconic weapons in all of gaming.

5. Mega Buster
The Mega Buster is the arm cannon utilized by Mega Man in all of the Mega Man games. Ever since the release of the first game back in 1987, the Mega Buster has remained the first resort for all who carry the Mega Man name.
The Mega Buster or a variation of it has appeared in every single game in the series, and it is impossible to think of Mega Man without his signature Mega Buster.
4. BFG
When you’re facing down hordes upon hordes of enemies, there’s nothing better to have at your side than a giant gun. Well, nothing except an even bigger gun, that is. And so, when up against all the fury hell has to offer, the appropriately named BFG is the best option there is.
The BFG has been destroying the forces of hell since the first Doom game, back in 1993. It has even made an appearance in Quake, which is also one of id Software’s properties. The satisfaction of clearing out entire rooms full of enemies with one shot is unmatched. And as a result, the BFG has earned the favor of players over the decades.
3. Blades of Chaos
Although Kratos himself may want to rid himself of these blades for good, most fans likely feel differently about them. These cursed blades, infused with hellfire, were given to Kratos by Ares himself. Tearing through Greece with what is essentially death on a chain is just as fun as it sounds. And so, these blades have become a fan favorite.
The moment when Kratos finally uses the blades once more in God of War (2018) is one of the greatest moments in modern gaming, and it all comes down to the massive impact the blades have had on the gaming community.
2. Buster Sword
Cloud Strife, from the Final Fantasy series, is a legendary protagonist in video game history. And the Buster Sword is the weapon that is most often identified with him.
Although not his most powerful weapon – or even a particularly special sword on its own – the image of the Buster Sword still looms large in the minds of gamers around the world, based solely on its association with Cloud himself. And so, it is always in contention among the most iconic video game weapons.
1. Master Sword
Was there ever any doubt? The Master Sword is the video game weapon. Period. The Blade of Evil’s Bane (or alternatively the Sword that Seals the Darkness) has defeated Ganon and his minions repeatedly, both in-universe and in real life.
In every Legend of Zelda game, the moment where Link acquires the Master Sword is always one of the most anticipated. When someone thinks of weapons from video games, they think of the Master Sword.
