The Darkspawn in Dragon Age: The Veilguard are Tainted creatures that reside in the underground and walk a path of destruction.
The world of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a boiling pot of culture and history, inhabited by elves, dragons, and perhaps the most frightening, the Darkspawn. Their very name sends shudders down the spines of those who inhabit these lands. The Darkspawn, staying true to their name, reside in the dark in the underground and have been part of Thedas for centuries. They are a constant in the series and have been a major threat to the lands for most of their existence.
In this article, we shall go over the Darkspawn, what they are, what they look like, their goals, and more.
Who Are the Darkspawn?
The Darkspawn are humanoid creatures said to have no soul. These soulless creatures are pale-skinned, and a strange darkness bleeds out from their eyes, giving them an unsettling appearance. The Taint, a condition linked to corruption from the ancient gods of Thedas, corrupts the Darkspawn and is the source of their darkness. The Taint sustains and drives these creatures forward. The corruption also grants them strength and the ability to heal.
The Darkspawn are a force of evil that leaves behind an indiscriminate path of destruction in their wake. These creatures multiply effortlessly by infecting others with the taint. The tainted then becomes a Broodmother and spawns other Darkspawn. Depending on the race of the infected, the Darkspawn can be either Hurlocks, Genlocks, Shrieks, or Ogres. The creatures often fight amongst themselves, a ritual that seeks to separate the wheat from the chaff.
The Darkspawn are creatures of the dark and find comfort in the same. Sunlight impairs their vision, driving them to reside in the underground of Thedas.
