The Arch-tempered Rey Dau is easily the biggest highlight of Monster Hunter Wilds’ first major title update. However, the way Capcom handled the monster’s introduction in the latest mainline title is far from ideal. With Monster Hunter Wilds’ post-launch, Capcom aimed to follow a similar roadmap as they had for Monster Hunter World back in 2018. However, due to the lack of a proper “endgame” in Monster Hunter Wilds, fans expected a substantial overhaul with TU1. Unfortunately, even with Arch-tempered Rey Dau, it seems Capcom didn’t live up to the expectations of Monster Hunter fans. The biggest criticism levied against the latest Monster Hunter title was regarding its difficulty, or lack thereof.

Unfortunately, outside a select few encounters, that seems to still be the cause for concern among Monster Hunter veterans, even with the addition of Arch-tempered Rey Dau. Let’s take a look at the main reasons why some fans are upset over Arch-tempered Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds.

How Does Arch-tempered Rey Dau Impact Monster Hunter Wilds’ Endgame?

With title update 1 (TU1), Capcom added a ton of new features and content to Monster Hunter Wilds. For many fans, the title update 1 was just the thing that the game needed to make its endgame more engaging and refreshing. While Monster Hunter Wilds’ endgame progression is quite robust, it gets stale quite fast. The Investigations system, while it is fun for the first few hours after reaching Hunter Rank (HR) 50, gets quite repetitive after some time. Furthermore, the game doesn’t feature any “true endgame challenge.” Once you’ve beaten Tempered Arkveld and Tempered Gore Magala, there’s nothing more in terms of challenge in the game.

However, with TU1, fans imagined Capcom would finally add new content that would spice up the endgame. And while that is true, for the most part, the new monsters aren’t all that “difficult,” especially when contrasted against the previous entries and their title updates. However, with title update 1’s release, players only had access to Zoh Shia and Mizutsune. Arch-tempered Rey Dau, which was touted to be the “ultimate challenge” by Capcom themselves, was made available later, as part of an Event Quest.

Unlike Zoh Shia and Mizutsune, Arch-tempered Rey Dau is limited to an Event Quest (A Silent Flash). And since it’s tied to an Event Quest, Arch-tempered Rey Dau is only available until the said quest is live, i.e., May 13, 2025. While it’s technically part of Monster Hunter Wilds’ endgame, it’s also a temporary monster, something you won’t have access to until the quest shows up in a weekly reset. As such, Arch-tempered Rey Dau doesn’t really impact Monster Hunter Wilds’ endgame all that much.

Why Are Fans Upset Over Arch-tempered Rey Dau?

The primary reason for some fans to be upset over Arch-tempered Rey Dau is, well, its nature as an Event Quest-exclusive monster. With Zoh Shia and Mizutsune, both being available as Investigations, it’s understandable some players might’ve expected a similar fate for Arch-tempered Rey Dau. However, the addition of a more powerful archetype of an existing base game monster as an event-exclusive isn’t anything new. In the case of Monster Hunter World, Arch-tempered Elder Dragons were also added to the game as Event Quests. It’s only after the game received its final title update that the quests were made available permanently. The same thing happened with Monster Hunter Rise and the Apex variants.

Another major reason why players are not happy with Arch-tempered Rey Dau is its difficulty, especially compared to other Tempered Monsters in the game. To put into perspective, Arch-tempered Monsters are meant to be the biggest threat to an ecosystem. And yet, Arch-tempered Rey Dau feels on par with the 3-star (strength) Tempered Rey Dau in terms of its power. It’s essentially a Tempered Rey Dau with a lot more health and a few surface-level changes. Many players argue that Arch-tempered Rey Dau isn’t even the strongest variant of its species. That crown is still being held by 5-star (strength) Tempered Rey Dau.

The lack of difficulty was the biggest issue that many players had with the base Monster Hunter Wilds. Unfortunately, that’s still an issue with the game even after the addition of an Arch-tempered Monster.

Is Arch-tempered Rey Dau Too Easy?

In our experience, Arch-tempered Rey Dau isn’t an easy monster to hunt, far from it. It has plenty of Defense, is quite aggressive, and has access to attacks that can easily blindside you. That being said, calling this variant an “Arch-tempered” is somewhat puzzling. In Monster Hunter World, monsters like Arch-tempered Nergigante, Arch-tempered Lunastra, and Arch-tempered Velkhana were a force to be reckoned with. These monsters were capable of practically “one-shotting” you if you failed to dodge their attacks. This is regardless of if you have the best endgame build equipped or not. The Arch-tempered Monsters in Monster Hunter World felt like a proper endgame challenge.

The difficulty of taking down an Arch-tempered Monster is what motivated players to grind for better gear and Decorations. This isn’t the case with Arch-tempered Rey Dau. With an optimal build, you can easily take down Arch-tempered Rey Dau in less than 20 minutes. Hopefully, with future title updates, Capcom will finally take a look at the lack of difficulty in Monster Hunter Wilds.
