Wuchang Fallen Feathers takes a lot of inspiration from some of the best souls-like action RPGs out there. For its level design, the game takes heavy inspiration from Dark Souls. For its boss design, the game seems to be inspired by Bloodborne and, to a certain extent, even Nioh. However, the combat is where Wuchang brings something entirely new to the souls-like genre. The combat system in developer Leenzee’s souls-like takes a hybrid approach, mixing spells with melee combos.

While spells play a crucial role in Wuchang’s combat system, melee weapons are still the primary means of damage. And much like any other souls-like, there’s a good amount of options when it comes to melee weapons. Here’s a look at all the weapon types in Wuchang Fallen Feathers and their best use cases in combat.

All Weapon Types in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

In Wuchang Fallen Feathers, there are a total of 5 weapon types. Each of these weapon types comes with its own movesets and Disciplines. Furthermore, unlike games like Lies of P or Lords of the Fallen, not every weapon is capable of parrying or blocking attacks. Both parry and block are Disciplines that are assigned to specific weapon types. Furthermore, every weapon in the game also has access to its specific Skyborn Might ability. Here’s a list of all the weapon types in Wuchang:

  • Longswords: Weapons with slash attacks and long reach. While the Longswords are quite slow compared to Dual Blades or One-Handed Swords, they make up for their lack of agility with their DPS. Furthermore, Longswords are the only weapon type in the game capable of deflecting (parrying) attacks.

  • Dual Blades: Dual Blades are incredibly fast and agile weapons, which can dish out a ton of damage with a flurry of attacks. While these weapons cannot parry attacks, they can be used to clash, which also staggers enemies.

  • Axes: Axes are slow weapons, but they also dish out the highest amount of single-hit damage. Furthermore, Axes are the only weapons in the game that have access to blocking.

  • One-Handed Swords: One-Handed Swords are incredibly technical weapons, with a good balance of agility and DPS. While their moveset can take a bit of getting used to, mastering them rewards players with a satisfying weapon combo system. Furthermore, much like Dual Blades, One-Handed Sword can clash with enemy attacks.

  • Spears: Spears are also very technical weapons, but with a forgiving moveset. Furthermore, Spears synergize incredibly well with offensive spells, making them the best weapon for hybrid builds.

Which Weapon Type Is the Best for Beginners in Wuchang Fallen Feathers?

All 5 weapon types have their strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, much like in Monster Hunter, each of the weapon types offers a completely different playstyle. And as such, all of them are equally as viable as the others. However, if you’re new to souls-likes or action RPGs in general, we recommend picking up either the Longsword or the Spear, as these are the easiest weapons to use and master.
