Similar to Dark Souls and Elden Ring, Wuchang Fallen Feathers also features a robust combat system, complete with a clunky but useful stealth element. The stealth in Wuchang isn’t nearly as fleshed out as in Sekiro or even Elden Ring. However, it’s comparable to Dark Souls. Essentially, the game features a proximity as well as a backstab system, which lets you kill enemies by breaking their stance.

Backstab in Wuchang works roughly similarly to Dark Souls, with one key distinction: it’s tied to the charged heavy attack. However, if you can perform a backstab successfully, it can give you a major edge in battle against some of the toughest bosses. Here’s everything you need to know about backstab in Wuchang Fallen Feathers, how to perform it, best use cases, and more.

To backstab, you need to first understand how to perform a charged heavy attack. Unlike other traditional RPGs, Wuchang features two different forms of charged heavy combos. The first is the usual charged attack that deals moderately higher damage compared to the light attack combo. The other is a more powerful version of the same charged attack, which requires Skyborn Might. Every weapon in the game has access to a Skyborn Might charged combo. And depending on how many charges you have on your Might gauge, the charged attack does more HP and posture damage.

You can perform a charged attack by pressing and holding RT or R2. Do note that charged attacks consume significantly more stamina and can leave you vulnerable if performed during an exhausted state. If you can break an enemy’s posture with a charged attack, it leaves them open for a critical hit. Usually, it takes 2-3 charged attacks from a Longsword to drain an enemy’s posture.

However, if you can position yourself behind said enemy, performing a single charged combo will break an enemy’s or even a boss’s stance. Once an enemy’s stance-broken, you need to press RB or R1 to execute a critical hit (or a backstab), which deals a ton of damage.

Other Ways to Stance-Break Enemies and Bosses

Apart from a backstab, you can also stance-break enemies and even bosses by parrying their attacks. There are two forms of parries in Wuchang: Deflect and Clash. Clash is available to all weapon types and can be performed automatically if you time your charged attacks right before an enemy hits you. Deflect, on the other hand, is only available for the Longsword and is essentially a regular parry. However, Deflect only works against physical attacks and cannot block or retaliate against martial arts or elemental attacks.

Additionally, Spells can also deplete an enemy’s posture faster than regular attacks. Some Spells also increase your posture damage for a short time. You can purchase these Spells from the vendors at Shu Sanctuary or obtain them by defeating main story and optional bosses.
