5 Hogwarts Legacy Professors You Should Pay Attention To! Hogwarts Legacy is just a little over a week away from launch and enterprising fans and players will want to familiarize themselves with some of the staff their student character is sure to be in regular contact with.
Hogwarts Professors are there to help students learn and advance in their magical skills. But sometimes they are hiding their own plans and agendas. Which of the castle’s many staff members are the 5 Hogwarts Legacy Professors you should be keeping an eye on?
#5 – Hogwarts Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black
Even casual Harry Potter fans should recognize the name of Hogwarts Legacy’s Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black. He played a small, but crucial role in the original books as a former Headmaster portrait, which hung in Headmaster Dumbledore’s office. During those original stories he had a cranky and sarcastic personality, and only seemed to accept his duty to assist the current Hogwarts Headmaster with great reluctance.
Phineas was also the great-great grandfather of Harry’s godfather Sirius Black, and he could travel back and forth between his portrait in Hogwarts and one which hung in the Black family home at Grimmauld Place.
With Hogwarts Legacy, now fans will get a chance to see the man himself in action, though his shared biographical information paints a rather unflattering picture. In the Order of the Phoenix his own great-great grandson Sirius Black would describe him as one of Hogwarts least popular Headmasters. He is said to care little for the students and seeks to avoid them as much as possible, instead preferring to focus on the status the Headmaster position gives him within the greater wizarding world.
#4 – Hogwarts Deputy Headmistress Matilda Weasley
Matilda Weasley is a kindly looking older lady with the red hair her future family would be well known for. Though her exact relation to the future Ron Weasley family is not currently known, there can be no doubt that she will have some connection to them.
In Hogwarts Legacy, Professor Weasley is an incredibly talented witch who previously worked for the Ministry of Magic as a curse breaker. She now keeps a sharp eye on the student body at Hogwarts as the school’s strict, but fair Deputy Headmistress and also holds the position of Transfiguration professor.
As the new 5th year student at Hogwarts, it is Professor Weasley who will be working closely with your character to help them catch up on their studies. She will introduce you to two valuable resources in order to help you accomplish this goal: the Wizard’s Field Guide and the Room of Requirement.
As many Potter fans may recall, the Room of Requirement was used by Harry as a secret gathering place for Dumbledore’s Army in the Order of the Phoenix. He was told of the room by the house elf Dobby, and it was made clear that the existence of this room was a castle secret known by very few people. The fact that the Room of Requirement is revealed to a new Hogwarts student by a professor seems somewhat similar to the step the Hogwarts professors took when they entrusted Hermione Granger with the time-turner in Prisoner of Azkaban. There are clearly great things expected of this new student, as well!
#3 – Hogwarts Professor Mirabel Garlick
Mirabel Garlick is the Herbology Professor at Hogwarts and her sunny demeanor and flowery language make her a favorite of both staff and students alike. She is a Muggleborn, originally from a large and boisterous London family. She has said that she never really felt at home until she came to Hogwarts at the age of 11 and was sorted into Hufflepuff House. It was at school in her Herbology classes where she first discovered her love of magical plants.
Though Professor Garlick may be considered a fun and easy going teacher, you won’t want to slack off in her class. Knowledge of magical plants and their care will be vital to your growth as a witch or wizard. Remember when Harry and his friends learned about Mandrakes during the Chamber of Secrets? As Hermione explained, Mandrake is a powerful restorative, and is used in many healing potions. But it can also be dangerous to work with, because the cry of a Mandrake is fatal to anyone who hears it. In Hogwarts Legacy, it looks like your student will take full advantage of both of these properties, as trailers have shown the player character using a crying Mandrake to incapacitate enemies in combat!
In addition, within the Room of Requirement there will be large planters in which you can tend to plants and harvest their ingredients. Those ingredients can then be used to brew healing and protective potions, such as the Wiggenweld potion and an Invisibility potion. If you’re playing on the Playstation 5 and pre-order the game you’ll also get access to an exclusive Felix Felicis Potion recipe, and the luck granted by consuming this elixir is sure to get you out of a couple of tight spots.
#2 – Hogwarts Professor Dianah Hecat
Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Dianah Hecat holds this important position at Hogwarts long before a certain Dark Wizard will put a curse on it, so Harry Potter devotees shouldn’t assume that she’ll somehow be discharged from the position at the end of the year.
Like her colleague Professor Weasley, Dianah Hecat also had a successful career working at the Ministry of Magic. In fact, rumor around the school has it that she even spent some time employed by the secretive Department of Mysteries.
All of this experience makes her an incredibly talented instructor, and fans may favorably compare her teaching style to that of Mad Eye Moody in Goblet of Fire. Though it is highly unlikely that she is someone using Polyjuice Potion to mask their real agenda, it will be interesting to discover how her approach measures up to that of the hyper-vigilant former Auror.
Dianah’s teaching style is said to be very ‘hands on’, and students can likely expect to spend a good deal of their class time on their feet, practicing the defensive spells they need to master. Learning your lessons in her class will be vital if you wish to survive your encounters with dark wizards, aggressive goblins, and more.
#1 – Hogwarts Professor Eleazar Fig
Magical Theory Professor Eleazar Fig will play an important role in the story and mysteries which your student will find themselves caught up in at Hogwarts. When younger, Fig had aspirations of working for the Ministry of Magic, but set those ambitions aside to support the work of his wife Miriam, whose passion project required traveling around the world while she researched the disappearance of ancient magic.
In Hogwarts Legacy, ancient magic is a powerful branch of magic that has been forgotten in the wizarding world. Careful readers of the Harry Potter series may remember that in Goblet of Fire, while preparing for one of the tasks in the Triwizard Tournament, Harry came across the first and only mention of this power in a book at the Hogwarts Library. It was in reference to dragons – powerful magical creatures who are difficult for even wizards to control due to the impervious nature of their hides, which are imbued with ancient magic.
Returning back to Professor Fig, after many years of constant travel he grew weary of the lifestyle necessary for this seemingly endless quest, and so he left her to continue her search while he accepted a professorship at Hogwarts. To his deep regret, Miriam was later killed during her travels and Fig carries a lot of guilt because he wasn’t there to protect her.
Though he continues to teach at Hogwarts, Fig is determined to solve the mystery of her death and to complete the research she was working on. As your student discovers new powers that appear to allow them to harness this forgotten ancient magic, Eleazar Fig will be an important resource for understanding and learning how to control this mysterious ability.
