The Early Access has experienced a rough launch, but still, Ark: Survival Ascended Dominates Steam Sales Despite the Performance issues.
In the world of online gaming, few titles have managed to capture imagination quite like “Ark: Survival Evolved.” This ‘survival game with dinosaurs’ has not only become a dominant force on the Steam platform but has done so while grappling with ongoing performance issues. Ark: Survival Ascended is a a remastered, recreated game based on the original Ark: Survival Evolved game. Using Unreal Engine 5 technology the developers have produced a graphical overhaul of the game, creating better visuals, character models, and environments.
Ark: Survival Ascended Dominates Steam Despite Performance
As of Noon, US Central Standard Time, Arc Survival Ascended sits at #1 on the top 100 selling games on Steam. Additionally, it’s climbed to the #22 position of Most Played Games on Steam, with over 64,000 concurrent players. While there have been other, brand new, more popular games released on Steam this past year, these are great numbers for a remaster of a survival MMO. Clearly there is a wide appeal for a game that mixes sci-fi, fantasy, survival and dinosaurs.
Despite all of this great news for the game, however, there have been some major performance issues that could see it tripping out of the gate. Mixed reviews of the game, as well as lots of twitter posts and reddit threads, are filled with various complaints centering around technical issues. It appears that many players have been experiencing crashes, glitches and just an overall struggle for some to even get in and play the game.
Ark: Survival Ascended Developer Comments
So it’s only been a couple of days, and the launch for Ark: Survival Ascended has been rocky. However, Studio Wildcard have been actively working to address several of the problems players have been having. Earlier today one of the developers posted an article on the Ark Website detailing the many steps they are taking to correct technical issues.
Wildcard has released a new client-side update which should improve the game’s frame rate. The graphical quality is something that they full plan to continue working on and hopefully are able to make updates to throughout the weekend and beyond. Secondly, the next major issue they want to address is server-side stability and optimization. Wildcard believes that they have eliminated 95% of the server crashes plaguing players with their most recent server-side build.
Nearly all major games launch with their variety of bugs and glitches. In Ark: Survival Ascended’s case, unfortunately, game-breaking issues appeared to be fairly common. However, it is an Early Access version, where the specific intent is for the developers to gather data about the player experience, and to use the feedback to improve the game.
Will Ark: Survival be again one of the biggest games on Steam? The opportunity is certainly there. With major titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Starfield, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in player’s rear-view mirrors, there is something of a void in the gaming space the next couple of months. As we head into the holiday season, Ark: Survival Ascended seems poised to take advantage of player’s insatiable appetite for the ‘new’.
