Will Baldur’s Gate 3 Controller Support?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available in early access via Steam, with players able to purchase the game digitally and experience a limited portion of the story. The game will release in full for PC/Mac and Playstation 5 players on August 31, 2023. While an Xbox port is reportedly being worked on, at this time there is no official release date for the Microsoft console.
Whether you’re an Xbox gamer wanting to play the game at release or just a PC player who is more comfortable with a controller in hand, you may be wondering if Baldur’s Gate 3 will have controller support.
Thankfully, it appears as though the same will launch with controller support! However, there is some additional information to keep in mind.
Current State of Controller Support in Baldur’s Gate 3
In its current state of early access to the game, the developers at Larian Studios recommend playing on the game on a keyboard and mouse. If you do decide to try playing the game with a controller, keep in mind that you may encounter some bugs and other issues along the way. That’s part of the nature of an early access game, but still bears repeating.
The developers are working hard at fine-tuning the controller inputs and controls for launch, and if you start the game using a controller remember you can switch back to keyboard and mouse at anytime.
Which Controller is Best?
Which controller you use to play a PC game with comes down to a lot of player choice and preference. However, it is the case with some games that certain controllers may work better than others. For example, given that PCs are typically run with a Microsoft operating system player will often find that Xbox controllers often work more seamlessly with PC games than others. This isn’t always true, but things like this can sometimes influence the effectiveness of certain controllers.
In the case of Baldur’s Gate 3 this is also likely to be the case. Either Xbox or Steam controllers will probably have more seamless integration to the game on PC. Playstation controllers and Stadia controllers may take more work by the player in order to set things up so that their preferred type of controller will work properly.
