What is Noble Background?
Noble is a background in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it represents their proficiencies, where the character comes from and what their life was like before. NPC characters, including your companions, will recognise your Aristocratic origin and your manual abilities, often asking you for help with repairs. You can also use your trading and persuasion skills to influence others. Being from a Noble family can occasionally earn foes or respect and allays.
You were raised in a family among the social elite, accustomed to power and privilege. Accumulating renown, power, and loyalty will raise your status.

What are Noble Proficiencies?
In addition to the role-playing aspect, the background defines proficiencies, giving you a slight bonus to dice rolls and success in checks. Proficiency is what your character is good at and what knowledge they possess. This background’s default proficiencies are Religion, Persuasion, History, Perception, and Medicine. Your Noble proficiency features are Persuasion and History.
Persuasion is a Charisma skill that will help you with the following checks:
- Persuade in good intentions
- Create friendships
- Affect someone or a group of people with diplomacy, social graces, or kindness.
- Act with proper manners
- Negotiations
- Inspire the crowds
History is an Intelligence skill that will help you with the following checks:
- Knowledge about Faerun’s and Baldur’s Gate’s past events
- Lore
- Understanding of Artefacts about Legendary Items
- You Know Famous Heroes and People
- You Recall lore about wars and ancient civilisations
Should you choose Noble in Baldur’s Gate 3?
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you should choose Noble if it fits your character and you like it. Backgrounds have defined proficiencies, while classes have a list of skills they can be proficient with, and you can pick only two or three. You are a Noble, and the game will reward you for learning more about your companion’s past. You are the leader, and you know how to use the art of speech and the value of gold to achieve whatever you desire. So make sure it’s how you want your character to act before you make a final decision.
How Inspiration Goals Work Baldur’s Gate 3?
Further, in Baldur’s Gate 3, your Noble background allows you to complete special goals that will award you with inspiration that you can later utilise when playing the game. When you perform an action that is authentic to your character’s origin, they will be inspired.
