Minecraft is a vast sandbox title with a near-infinite world to explore. However, there are hostile mobs scattered around that can kill you pretty quickly. To help you fight them, many pieces of equipment are available for you to craft. One of the pieces is a helmet. A diamond or netherite helmet provides 1.5 armor points, which isn’t that much compared to other armor pieces. But you can make your helmet better with enchantments.
Enchantments are permanent buffs that you attach to your armor using an Enchanting Table. Most equipment has some similar and unique enchantments that you can get. Here’s a guide with the five best enchantments for your helmet in Minecraft.
5) Protection
Protection is a great enchantment when it comes to most of your armor pieces. While armor normally provides defense against physical and ranged attacks by increasing your armor value, the Protection enchantment goes a step further. It reduces damage from nearly all sources—even those that typically bypass armor. The only exceptions include hunger, the Warden’s sonic shriek, and damage from the Void.
4) Aqua Affinity
Aqua Affinity is a great helmet-exclusive enchantment when it comes to exploration. When you are underwater, your mining or digging speed is affected. It becomes five times slower compared to when on land. What Aqua Affinity does is negate this debuff, and you can mine at normal speed just like when you are on land. Moreover, this is great for collecting resources that are only found underwater, such as Seagrass.

Every piece of equipment that you use in Minecraft has a durability bar. This bar depletes whenever you use that equipment on something. This enchantment makes it so that there is a chance of not consuming your helmet’s durability when getting hit, which makes it last much longer.

Respiration is another helmet-only enchantment that is quite useful in traversing. When you dive underwater, you have a certain amount of time before your breath runs out and you start taking damage. Normally, this amount is only 15 seconds. However, with every level of Respiration on your helmet, you get 15 more seconds, with the max being 45 seconds added at Respiration III.

Mending is one of the best enchantments when it comes to most equipment. As we mentioned before, every item gets destroyed when the durability reaches zero. Typically, you have to repair your helmet with costly items to restore it. However, Mending lets you repair your helmet by simply gathering experience orbs, which you get through many actions like mining, smelting, or defeating mobs.
