Iron Banner is coming back to Destiny 2 during Season of the Seraph on January 3rd, 2023 and with it is coming 2 returning weapons, the Dark Decider Autorifle and the Gunnora’s Axe Shotgun. We are going to be talking about the potential god rolls of Gunnora’s Axe Shotgun and let you know if we think it’s worth grinding for. (Note: Once we actually get our hands on it, this may change our opinion, both of the traits and the weapon itself.)

Why You Should Get Gunnora’s Axe

Stat-wise, the Gunnora’s Axe is slightly better than most other pinpoint slug frame shotguns. These weapons are all about hitting your targets directly in the crit spot with a singular slug, and their stats show that with a very high range. There are two direct comparisons to the Gunnora’s Axe, and they are The Inquisitor and the First In, Last Out. The Inquisitor beats is out stat-wise, but is harder to obtain and lacks some of the perks that make Gunnora’s Axe a great PvE choice. But the Gunnora’s Axe may finally dethrone the First In, Last Out from its throne in the energy slot for PvE.

PvE – Gunnora’s Axe God Roll

For our barrel perk, we want to get our range up, so Hammer-Forged Rifling is the play.

Sadly, the Gunnora’s Axe cannot roll with Assault Mag, so we will have to make do with magazine size increasing perks like Appended Mag and Tactical Mag.

This is a shotgun that can be used for double slug boss damage strat, and as such the best choice is Auto-Loading Holster. This will allow you to switch between the two shotguns without having to reload them. This means you spend all your time putting slugs into the bosses crit spot with almost no downtime.

Since this would be a boss damage weapon, Vorpal Weapon is the prime choice here. If you plan doing other things with the shotgun, Voltshot isn’t a bad option either to open up build options.

For the way we are going to be using this weapon, our origin trait doesn’t matter too much at all.

A Handling masterwork allows quicker aiming down sights and faster swap speeds, which are crucial to getting the most damage out of the dual slug shotgun strat. A range masterwork will also be beneficial, so don’t snub your nose if you get that one.

As a primarily boss damaging weapon, we are going to want to put on our boss spec mod to have us doing as much damage as possible.

Slugs, while no longer the best for DPS, are still very much viable. Perhaps when the Linear Fusion Rifle meta dies, this weapon will be a great option to have in the back pocket.

PvP – Gunnora’s Axe God Roll

Origin TraitSuros Synergy, Skulking Wolf

You are going to see a trend with every perk chosen here. It’s all about target acquisition, and that means range, range, and even more range. Hammer-Forged Rifling is just a straight buff to range. You could also do Full Bore for even more, but I tend to avoid negatives to my stats.

Accurized Rounds improves our range. We’ve already discussed why: target acquisition.

We have a couple of options for Column 3 and the jury is out on which is better overall. Go with whichever one you prefer. Surplus is great for stat boost overall and is my personal choice, but Moving Target is an old favorite and is more consistent than Surplus.

This column is less of a debate but still offers a choice. Most would tell you that Opening Shot is the better option to get the nice buff on your first shot, but they wouldn’t tell you that Snapshot Sights is a bad choice either. Either one will do nicely.

I honestly had a hard time picking between the two origins perks. Skulking Wolf is great if you take some damage, but Suros Synergy grants a nice flinch resistance when you reload. Overall, I think Suros Synergy beats out Skulking Wolf, but your playstyle will definitely effect results.

Remember what we said before, we want all the Range! So obviously we want the range masterwork.

The Target Acquisition mod is staple for a lot of PvP weapons and the Gunnora’s Axe is no exception. If you are confident in your shots, Quick Access Sling is a good alternative.

Slugs are a fun and effective choice for PvP. The Gunnora’s Axe has a lot going for it too with decent stats and decent perk combinations. It could be argued that the Inquisitor is the better option, and I would agree, but I would also argue that it is much harder to obtain.

Gunnora’s Axe God Roll Conclusion

Slug shotguns occupy a special place in a lot of Destiny players hearts. Its an old PvE damage meta and still can do work even if it no longer wears the crown. They make great PvP weapons, if you can get that sweet crit shot. And the Gunnora’s Axe gives great options for both. So whether you are hunting a good weapon for either PvE or PvP, this seems like a great weapon to go for.
