Developed by Avalanche Studios, and published by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, Hogwarts Legacy is described as an “immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books.” A major part of Hogwarts Legacy will be the Gear you can collect, and more details about upgrading your gear was shown in a recent livestream by Avalanche. Let’s take a look at what we can expect when the game releases on February 10, 2023!
Hogwarts Legacy: Gear
Identification Station
Gear can be brought to the Room of Requirement where the player can use certain utility stations in order to determine the type of gear you have collected. It’s also where you can choose to add certain desired traits.
The information on the types of gear players can collect is pretty thin on the ground so far, we haven’t been shown many specific sets in the gameplay reveal. The developers did share that the traits on the gear you collect while playing the game may not be immediately known when the character first acquires it. They will need to bring the pieces into the Room of Requirement to the Identification Station, where they can interact with this table in order to discover the qualities of the gear they found.
The Enchanted Loom
The Enchanted Loom is a crafting station in the Room of Requirement which players will use to apply traits to or upgrade individual pieces of gear.
Like items, clothes in the wizarding world can have differing magical properties. Players may want to craft different pieces with different traits depending on what activity they plan on doing next. For example, a player attending a possible dueling tournament or other combat related activity will likely want to optimize their gear with defensive or offensive traits based on spells. While a visit to the Forbidden Forrest might call for something more specific, such as protection against or the soothing of magical creatures.
As you can see in the image above, when the developers interacted with the loom to apply a trait to a piece of gear there appeared to be a list of 25 total various traits. Whether this is a full list or not could not be determined, but the handful which were shown on screen provide insight into the potential variety of traits that the game will offer.
The Loom can also be used to upgrade your gear as well. You’ll need certain materials and ingredients in order to make these upgrades, with only small amounts at first, with growing requirements as the gear becomes more powerful
Cosmetics and Customization
Another exciting feature which the developers shared would be the flexibility that the game would offer as far as cosmetics and customization of your character and their look. While the physical look of your character was included in that, when the developers spoke here, they were referring to the ability to customize the clothing your character will wear.
In Hogwarts Legacy, players will not be forced to make a choice between a piece of gear they think looks cool, but has poor traits or stats, and a more powerful piece of gear that just doesn’t have the same kind of drip. Instead, players will be able to change (transfigure?) any piece of gear to have the appearance or look of a type of gear they have found before.
