Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world introduced in the Harry Potter books. It’s quite easily one of the 2023 most highly-anticipated games. The story takes place at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1800s. Players can create their own Wizard or Witch and explore the magical open world, attend classes, fly on magical creatures, fight casting spells, make potions and much more.
The show in the Avalanche Software studio was hosted by Community Manager Chandler Wood, Ben Snow, and developers Game detector Alan Tewshowed and Systems Designer Mekenzy Toner. The new Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay features new information about the Creatures and Taming and Caring for Fantastic Beasts. A new look at advanced aspects of crafting in the game and how important role the tamed beast will play in it. Once more, the gameplay of the Hogwarts Legacy surprised me with the complex game systems and deep customisation. Let’s take a look!
Creatures and Fantastic Beasts
The Developers already confirmed a lot of magical creatures that will help players with crafting or can be used as mounts or pets. Today, during the gameplay, we saw a player travelling on a Hippogriff above the trees of different biomes and three amazing creatures in Vivarium: Cat, Niffer, Mooncalf and Graphorn.
The vivarium is one of the Room of Requirements areas where players can create a safe space for their fantastic beasts. Firstly it’s worth noting that players can unlock different cosmetics and even environments for their vivarium, the customisation is a big focus of the game!
The wizarding world is a dangerous place full of hunters and other dangerous predators. As a player during the quests and exploration, we can find various magical beasts and bring them to our Vivarium to take care of them. As a result, our magical friends can speed up the process of growing plants or deliver fur, milk and other ingredients for potion and gear crafting.
Caring for Fantastic Beasts
Firstly, each magical creature, that players will bring to their Room of Requirement will need proper care. In the picture above in the lower left corner we have four options, the player can pet the little Niffer friend, feed him, brush his fur as shown in the picture or take him with us on the next adventure. If the player will offer them a home and build a relationship with their creatures they will feel safe and grateful. We can even buy toys for them, put a big box of toys in their area and watch our pets play! Each beast has its favourite toy. Isn’t that cute?
This brings us to the conjuration feature. The conjuration is a menu and a spell that allows players to change the look of items or conjure more. However some items are purely decorations that players can scale and place wherever they want, some of the conjured items developers called utility items. Those functional objects players can buy in the Hogsmeade shop or unlock by completing special quests and during game-world exploration.
However, Magical creatures are cute and for many of us just caring for them will offer a big time, they are also an integral part of the game mechanics, crafting and how the player’s character will progress.
The Utility items that we can place in the Vivarium will help players care for the beast improving the efficiency of their little farm. For example, as shown in the picture above, players can feed multiple beasts at once, or even provide food for them when a player is away. Developers foreshadowed there are more utility conjuration items that can help players, or speed up crafting. We could also see in the conjuration menu a category called breeding items, thus there is a possibility players can breed fantastic beasts. Also, the decorative and utility items can be placed freely in vivariums and modified whenever players want. As a result, those all objects will help build better relationships with fantastic beasts.
Lastly, Players can name all their magical creatures and create for them a fantastic safe home.
