Path of Exile 2 offers extensive player freedom, allowing you to pick, mold, and master your play style as you see fit. The game offers several classes to pick from and adds another layer through its Ascendancy Classes. In function, these are subclasses that further allow you to make sure your character is exactly how you wish it to be.

These subclasses are not available right away and must be unlocked by ascending classes. Doing so unlocks a new set of skills and powers that open up new gameplay possibilities. In this guide, we shall go over how to ascend classes in Path of Exile 2 to unlock the Ascendancies.

How To Ascend in Path of Exile 2

To ascend classes in Path of Exile 2, you will first have to progress through the game’s main quest and make your way to Act 2. Here, you will have to complete a trial to ascend class. Once you complete the trial, you will be given the choice to pick one of two available Ascendancies for your class. There are only two Ascendancies available per class at the time of launch. However, the developers plan to add a third Ascendancy for each class later down the line.

There are two trials currently available in the game that you can take on. These are the ‘The Trial of the Sekhemas’ and ‘The Trial of Chaos.’ You will have to complete one of the trials to ascend in the game. Then, you will have to run the trials back and complete them again to earn Ascendancy Skill Points which you can use to purchase cool new skills.

The trials can be run back several times with no limit and can be used to farm Ascendancy Skill Points. Take note, however, that they get harder every time you complete them.

To begin a trial in Path of Exile 2, you will first require a Token or a Coin. You come across your first Coin after the ‘Trail of Corruption’ quest in the second act of the game, which will take you to the Traitor’s Passage region of the game.

Defeat Balbala inside the Prison of the Disgraced in the Traitor’s Passage to start the ‘Ascent to Power’ side quest. The trials will be marked as a Point of Interest on your map that you can then complete to pick your Ascendancy and ascend class.
