Midgardsormr is the first real challenge many players face in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Here is how to take it down.
The Midgardsormr is the boss you encounter at the end of Chapter 2 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It is the first major boss battle in the game and is unlike anything you may have encountered before. Defeating this boss is necessary to progress the story in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Midgardsormr Stats
The Midgardsormr in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has different HP values depending on the difficulty you are playing on.
Stat | Easy | Medium | Hard |
HP | 9430 | 13472 | 109262 |
The Midgardsormr is weak to Ice attacks and Synergy Abilities. Using the Assess Materia against this boss will reveal these weaknesses. The boss can be Pressured by inflicting enough Ice damage or with a single use of a Synergy Ability.
It is greatly resistant to Fire damage, so don’t bother using any fire type attacks against it. Additionally, the boss has lesser resistances against Fixed Damage, Stop and Petrify. The boss also has immunities to Proportional Damage, Berserk, Slow, Venom, Silence, Sleep, Stone and Morphable Items.
How to Defeat the Midgardsormr
The Midgardsormr is a challenging fight. However, through the use of proper strategies exploiting its weaknesses, you will eventually bring down the fire-spewing serpent with certainty.
Aerith is the most valuable party member in this battle. Using Arcane Ward in conjunction with the Ice Materia is a surefire way to exploit the Midgardsormr’s elemental weakness and rapidly inflict Pressure and damage.
Shiva is the best summon for this fight due to her Ice-based method of attacking. Barrett’s high ATB Charge Rate can help to use Shiva’s abilities one after the other.
Once you have successfully Staggered the boss, use as many high-damaging moves as possible. Cloud is useful both to stagger the boss once it is Pressured and to damage the boss once it is Staggered.
Attacks To Avoid
The Midgardsormr has three phases. It enters the second phase at around 75% HP and the third phase at 25% HP. In each phase, the boss gains new attacks so be careful of attacks you haven’t seen before.
Starting from the second phase, the boss will start spewing fire. An attack to look out for here is Scorching Breath. This deals high damage but can be avoided by hiding behind trees.
Another attack it starts using in the second phase is Toxic Waters, in which it poisons the waters of the arena. This attack has a huge AoE but can be avoided by standing on the patches of land nearby. Getting hit by this attack will cause you to be poisoned.
Its most devastating attack is called Beta, which can wipe out the whole party. When you see this put up your block, and have Elemental Materia equipped with Fire Materia to take half damage.
Carefully avoiding the giant snake’s powerful attacks and using powerful Ice moves alongside the summon, Shiva, will soon have this snake wrangled.
That was everything you need to know to hopefully defeat Midgardsormr in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Did you find this boss challenging?
