The Mirror of Loss is an interactive mirror that can alter players’ stats. It is found in the House of Grief in Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3.
The Mirror of Loss in Baldur’s Gate 3 lets you alter your ability stats permanently by +2 if used correctly. In return, you must bear a small penalty. While you may encounter the mirror in Act 2 in the Gauntlet of Shar, you can only use it in the House of Grief in Act 3. The ability boosts offer a great advantage in the final act of the game where the stakes keep rising.
In this guide, we shall go over how to find the mirror and how you can use it.
How to Find the Mirror Of Loss
You will come across the Mirror of Loss in the Gauntlet of Shar in the Shadow-Cursed lands and in the House of Grief in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate. The Mirror of Loss in the Gauntlet of Shar is cracked and cannot be used. The one in the House of Grief, however, is functional and can be used to boost abilities.
To find the functional Mirror of Loss, head to the Lower City in Act 3. The House of Grief lies in the northwest corner of the map. Progress through the House, and the Mirror of Loss lies at the very end of the level.
How to Use the Mirror of Loss
Interact with the Mirror of Loss. You will have to go through a certain dialogue chain to get the desired effect. You will also be required to pass a few skill checks when interacting with the mirror. For this, we recommend using a character with high Intelligence or using the Enhance Ability to increase the character’s Intelligence. You can pass the skill checks with any member and then bring forth the character that you wish to boost.
When you interact with the mirror, you will have four options. Select the [ARCANA] option and “study the mirror”. Pass the Arcana check to reach the next stage. We recommend quick saving and loading if you fail.
Now, offer a prayer to the mirror and pass the corresponding [RELIGION] check. After this, select “Gaze into the mirror, intent on offering it one of your memories”. This will trigger a cutscene. You can then offer up any of your memories as a sacrifice. Each memory corresponds to an ability.
The Mirror gives you a temporary -2 penalty on the ability you offer up in exchange for a permanent +2 on the ability of your choice. Use Remove Curse to get rid of the penalty.
