In Baldur’s Gate 3, Boots of Speed are a helpful set of footwear which also play a role in an Underdark quest – this short Guide explains everything you need to know about Boots of Speed in BG3.
Boots of Speed
In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Boots of Speed offer the wearer additional maneuverability on the battlefield. By using a bonus action called Click Heels, whoever has them equipped with gain twice the amount of movement speed, as well as inflicting Disadvantage on any Opportunity attacks taken against them.
Perhaps more importantly than their utility, however, is their importance in some story threads found in the Underdark. How to Get Boots of Speed in Baldur’s Gate 3
In order to get the Boots of Speed in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll need to find a Deep Gnome named Thulla who is in the Myconid Colony down in the Underdark in Act 1. The first step is getting down into the Underdark and finding the Myconid Colony. You can do this by discovering the Well in the Blighted Village. After climbing down the well, head west through the caverns until you discover the Whispering Depths waypoint. There will be a large, gaping chasm nearby. Cast or use a Scroll of Feather Fall to safely jump down into the Underdark. The Myconid Colony is almost straight northwest of where you’ve landed.
You’ll have to pass a a DC 5 Charisma check in order to convince the Myconids that you mean no harm, they’ll let you visit. Finally, you can find Thulla up on the orangish-red mushroom platforms not far from Soverign Spaw. You’ll find her laying down, in agony from a poisoning and can speak with her to find out why.
Depending on the moral compass of your character there are a couple of different ways you can acquire the Boots of Speed from Thulla:
- You can Steal the boots from Thulla
- You can’t pickpocket her, but while in dialogue you can choose an INVESTIGATION option where you check her for anything valuable while she can’t defend herself.
- Pass the 10 DC check, and then you’ll see an option to take the boots right off her feet.
- If you cure Thulla, she will give you the boots as a reward
- You can’t just use any potion. You need to leave the Colony and travel southwest down to the Decrepit Village.
- Look for a Duergar named Gekh Coal. Pickpocket him to find and take the Duergar Antidote.
- Return to Thulla and cure her. During the conversation that follows she will tell you about her kin who are still trapped in the Grymforge working as slaves. Agree to try and help them and she will give you the boots.
