The Cloak of Cunning Brume is exactly what your stealthy character needs, and you can buy it from a merchant during Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3).
Cloak of Cunning Brume
In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Cloak of Cunning Brume is a great cloak for stealthy characters or defensively weak characters who need some extra protection in combat. The single bonus on this gear piece is called Cunning Brume. When the wearer Disengages, this cloak will create a foggy cloud within a 2 meter radius around them. This ‘smoke screen’ will only last for one turn, but that should be enough to get your character away from any melee pressure and heal up a bit.

How to Get Cloak of Cunning Brume in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get the Cloak of Cunning Brume in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll first need to play through Act 1, choosing to protect the Druid Grove and by convincing Rolan to stay and help. Only then will you be able to find Mattis at the Last Light in during Act 2.
Once you’ve landed on the ground in Act 1, you’ll want to find the Emerald/Druid Grove. You’ll find it by moving mostly north from where you landed on the beach. The first time you reach it the gate will be under attack by a party of raiding goblins. Help defeat them, and you will be welcomed inside. From the gate, head straight north down into an area known as the Hollow. Take the path to the right. You don’t have to go very far, just past the merchant Arron and on the left you should see and hear a group of three Tieflings arguing about whether to stay and help or leave.
Rolan will be one of these three Tieflings. Convince him and the others to stay and help. You’ll also want to introduce yourself to Mattis for the first time while you’re here. You’ll find him along the path to the Sacred Pool, with a merchant stand off on the left-hand side. Then continue playing out the story however you like in Act 1. However, keep in mind that you’ll need to choose to protect the Grove. Otherwise, Mattis and the other Tieflings will not survive.
Finding Mattis in Act 2
Once you reach the Shadow-Cursed Lands in Act 2 you’ll want to search for the Last Light Inn. It is an entirely seperate area from the bulk of the main Act 2 map and you can find it northwest of the Shadowed Battlefield waypoint. The first time you visit you’ll need to persuade Jaheira that you’re a friend and then you’ll have free access to the area inside.
After you’re free from the conversation at the entrance, head into the open courtyard space and then into the actual Inn. Just inside the door, on the left you should find Mattis standing there. Speak to him and ask to see his wares. You will find the Cloak of Cunning Brume for sale for 168 gold.
