In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Cloak of Protection is a mid-game piece of gear you can get during Act 2. This short Guide explains everything you need to know about the Cloak of Protection in BG3.

Baldur's Gate 3 Cloak of Protection

Cloak of Protection

In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Cloak of Protection offers a fantastic boost in protection for a very reasonable price. Equipping the Cloak of Protection offers an immediate bonus of +1 to both Armour Class and Saving Throws. And that means all types of Saving Throws, not limited to a certain ability score. As a cloak rather than a standard armor piece it can be used by any character or class. It’s a great place holder cloak until you can acquire some of the later end-game cloaks. And even then, you can and should keep it as a secondary choice to use on other characters.

Here are all the Cloak of Protection features in BG3:

  • Armor: Cloak
  • Armour Class: None
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Proficiency Requirement: None Required
  • Weight: .5 kg
  • Value: 200
  • Location: Sold by Quartermaster Talli at the Last Light Inn, Act 2.
  • Bonuses:
    • Armour Class +1
    • Saving Throw +1
  • All Classes, Companions, and Races Can Use This Item

How to Get Cloak of Protection in Baldur’s Gate 3

To get the Cloak of Protection in Baldur’s Gate 3 all you need to do is play the game until you enter the Shadow-Cursed Lands in Act 2, then find your way safely to the Light Light Inn. The Last Light Inn is located to the north of the map and once you arrive you’ll need to convince Jaheira and the other Harpers that you are not a threat. Once you’ve accomplished that , then you’ll find Talli immediately to the left/west of the entrance. She’ll be underneath a tent/canopy like structure and have a lot of different wares for sale.

To purchase the Cloak of Protection you’ll need 480 gold. That’s a bit pricey for an Uncommon piece of gear, but the bonuses it offers are well worth it. At this point in the game, you should have enough gold built up to easily afford it.

If for some reason you don’t want to (or can’t) purchase the cloak immediately, make sure not to put it off for too long. Story events, if played out a certain way, can bring disaster to the Last Light Inn and Talli. Additionally, much later in Act 2, Talli and the Harpers may accompany you as you go on the attack. Make sure to buy whatever you want from her before this point because she and the other Harper NPCs have the potential to be killed in the fight and lost for good.
