In Baldur’s Gate 3, The Gloves of the Automaton is a clothing gear from Barcus Wroot in Act 2 that gives the player the Circuitry Interface action. This unique effect will give you construct status, resistance to lighting, and an advantage on attack rolls. You will also gain a flat bonus to the strength saving throws +1.
Classes that will benefit from it are Rogue, Ranger, Barbarian, or Fighter classes. Especially if you can pair the Gloves of the Automaton with Titanstring Bow and Club of Hill Giant Strength. You can equip it to your character’s hand armour slot in the inventory, providing additional bonuses and buffs. There are no proficiency requirements for this item.

How to Get The Gloves of the Automaton in Baldur’s Gate 3
In Baldur’s Gate 3, The Gloves of the Automaton can be purchased from Barcus Wroot in the Last Light Inn Act 2. The gear costs 290 gold.
However, it’s easy to miss the opportunity to obtain them because, before Barcus opens his shop for you, he can die on several occasions in the story. There are a few important steps to get access to his wares. Here are all the steps, in short, on how to get The Gloves of the Automaton:
- Save Barcus Wroot from Goblins in Blighted Village in Act 1
- Find your way to Grinforge and Save Barcus and other Gnomes.
- Invite Barcus to your camp.
- Advance to Act 2 and Head to Last Light Inn
- Find Barcus at the Last Light Inn
- Steal or Buy Gloves of the Automaton
Save Barcus Wroot from Goblins in Blighted Village
First, you’ll encounter him in Blighted Village, the central location on the Act 1 Map. Poor guy is tied up to a spinning windmill by Goblins. Your task is straightforward. Kill goblins or persuade them to leave Gnome and the Blighted Village unharmed. Next, stop the spinning windmill and untie Barcus.
After the short conversation, you’ll learn he lost everything, including his friends, and will do everything to save them. You’ll part with him here.
Find and Save Barcus in Grinforge
Find and head to the Grymforge, an underground location accessible from the Underdark in Act 1, where you can find and craft one of the best gear items in Act 1, Adamantine Armour and Weapons. Before you explore the Grymforge, try to save Barcus as soon as you arrive. For the task, you’ll need a special Runepowder. One of the slaves who escaped from the same Absolute followers who now threaten Barcus has a barrel of this unique explosive substance. You need to find them and convince them to spare you a little. It will be useful later.
On the First Floor of Grymforge, head to the South side of the ruins just across the docks where you arrived. Make your way up to the scared Gnome woman, Philomeen, who, with proper persuasion, is willing to share this powerful Runepowder with you when you offer your help saving Barcus and others imprisoned by duergar led by Nere, and forced to clear the rubble. It’s part of the quests: Rescue the Gnome, Rescue Wulbren, Avenge the Ironhands, and Save the Grymforge Gnomes.
Once you have the Runepowder, return to the docks and enter the lava room west (X: -628 Y: 317). Offer help clearing the rubble. Throw the Runepowder at the rubble and use any fire spell to blow it all up. As soon as Nere shows his true nature, turn against him and other duergar. This fight will be challenging, depending on your level. Use crowd-control spells, potions, and scrolls to make the task easier.
Recruit Barcus to Join The Camp
After the fight, invite Barcus to follow your camp. He will wander around your cam, and you can speak with him, but you won’t be able to buy anything from him yet.
Find Barcus at the Last Light Inn and get the Gloves of the Automaton
Finally, you can find Barcus Wroot in Last Light Inn during Act 2 if you successfully, saved him twice and convinced him to join your camp. He will open his shop, and you can buy or steal Gloves of the Automaton from him.
