One such item, the enigmatic Hollow’s Staff, stands out as an intriguing and powerful weapon for those who seek to enhance their spellcasting abilities. This staff not only boasts impressive stats but also comes with a unique backstory that adds depth to your journey. In this guide, we’ll explore Hollow’s Staff, how to acquire it, and tips for using it effectively in Baldur’s Gate 3.
What is Hollow’s Staff in BG3?

In Baldur’s Gate 3 Hollow’s Staff is a must-have quarterstaff for Necromancy Wizards that you can pick up pretty early in Act 3. The main perk on this weapon is called Heightened Necromancy. It increases the chances of success of your Necromancy Spells by causing any creatures targeted by them to have to roll for saves at a Disadvantage.
Moreover, equipping this staff will also grant you access to the Arms of Hadar spell. Once per Long Rest you can cast this Level 1 Conjuration spell. It casts in a 3 meter radius and prevents all enemies within the area from being able to use their reactions. Typically, this spell is only available Warlocks or those who take the Magic Initiate: Warlock feat.
Finally, direct hits from this weapon will deal an additional 1-4 points of Necrotic damage.

How to Get Hollow’s Staff in BG3? Explained

To get the Hollow’s Staff in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll need to find the ringmaster Lucretious at the Circus of the Last Days in Rivington, and be willing to kill her. While you can pickpocket other items from her, you cannot steal the staff. The only way to get it is by killing her. Doing so will lock you out of the Find Dribbles the Clown quest. However, before killing her you can use a spell or potion of Invisibility and pickpocket the reward for this quest, the Spellmight Gloves.
Additionally, attacking her will turn the rest of the circus members hostile towards you. We strongly recommend that you finish everything else you want to do at the circus before fighting Lucretious!
Find Lucretious at Circus of Last Days

As soon as you start Act 3 you enter Rivington and the waypoint is easily unlocked at the end of the initial path you walk. The Circus of the Last Days is easy to find from here. Simply head north on the road and the entrance to the Circus will be the first available opening on the left. However, before going in you’ll have to pass Klaus and the circus’ principle sniffer, Benji. Given the recent murders in the town, they are checking visitors. Depending on what party member and class you initiate the conversation with you’ll have to pass a Persuasion, Deception, or Intimidation check. If necessary, however, you can also pay him a bribe.
Once inside head straight west and then at the end of the row of vendors turn right and head straight north. Lucretious should be at the end of this straightaway. Interact with her or take the time to pickpocket her, as you choose. Finally, remember that fighting her will also start combat with the other circus performers, so don’t attack until you’re fully ready!
Once Lucretious is defeated, you can loot her for Hollow’s Staff.
How to Use Hollow’s Staff in BG3?
The best way to use Hollow’s Staff in Baldur’s Gate 3 is by equipping it to a Necromancy Wizard or even Circle of the Spores Druid build. This is because the Heightened Necromancy passive causes all of your targets to have Disdavantage against your Necromancy spells. Such spells include Ray of Sickness, Blindness, Bestow Curse, Blight, Circle of Death, Eyebite, and Harm.
However, it strangely seems that the Arms of Hadar spell is not included in this, even though it does Necrotic damage. That is because it is classified as a Conjuration spell. Therefore, the Heightened Necromancy passive won’t apply.
Tips and Tricks for Hollow’s Staff in BG3
