In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Moondrop Pendant is an amulet which can be found early in Act 1 – this Guide explains everything you need to know about the Moondrop Pendant in BG3.
Moondrop Pendant
In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Moondrop Pendant is a great early accessory piece which can be worn by any character or party member. This amulet’s active bonus is called Writhing Dance. When the wearer has 50% hit points or less, they don’t provoke Opportunity Attacks. Attacks of Opportunity are automatic reactions which can come from both players, party members and enemies. This reaction allows you to make a melee attack roll when a nearby combatant tries to move out of your range.
Enemies can make Attacks of Opportunities, as well. You can visually see this when you have a party member standing close to an enemy to attack and then try to move them away. From whatever direction they are moving to near to an enemy, you’ll see a red arrow indicating that the enemy will get a chance to attack. You can avoid this by using the Disengage action, but otherwise, you chance loosing more HP.
Therefore, the Moondrop Pendant is incredibly helpful for letting a low HP party member take healing actions while being able to move around (or away) from the field of battle without taking further damage.

How to Get Moondrop Pendant in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get the Moondrop Pendant in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll need to find the Owlbear Nest, locate the magically sealed chest inside, and break the seal by reading a prayer of Selune. The Owlbear Nest is located to the west of the Emerald Grove Environs waypoint. Or west from the Blighted Village waypoint. When coming from Emerald Grove, you’ll want to move straight west and then take the path to the right/northwest, which will bend and move down towards the stream. Once you reach the bottom of the path at the water, walk across. It will slow you down a bit as ‘difficult terrain’ but is otherwise easy to pass through. Straight ahead from there you will see the entrance to the Owlbear Nest. As you approach a party member should make a comment about tracks in the mud outside the cave.
Once inside, head forward and take the first turn on the right. The Owlbear and her cub are in the far back north corner of the cave and can be completely avoided if you only wish to come in and get the amulet. (Or you can use the Potion of Animal Speaking found near the chest to go speak with her.) You’ll then reach the edge of a dropdown and can see a shrine with a Selune statue down below. The ledge has handholds you can click on to use to climb down.
The Gilded Chest with the Moondrop Pendant is straight ahead, but you’ll find it’s sealed with magic. Sleight of Hand is not enough to disarm this one. Instead, look over to the area with the large statue. Jump across to the open area to the left of it. Then walk past to the small area behind it. Hopefully at least one party member’s Perception check will be successful to reveal the prayer sheet in the back.
Pick the prayer sheet up and jump back over to the chest. Have the party member holding the prayer sheet stand next to the chest and then read it. This should dispel the magic protecting the chest. You’ll even get a little bit of an XP reward for doing so. Inside, you’ll find a few pieces of treasure loot along with the Moondrop Pendant.
Most characters should be capable of reading the prayer and opening the chest. However, I have found that Gale is often the most successful with it. Possibly having something to do with magic and having a higher Intelligence score.
