Discover multiple ways to access the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 1, including through hidden entrances and shortcuts.
The Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a vast, dangerous subterranean world teeming with strange creatures, hidden treasures, and reclusive characters. Reaching this eerie yet enchanting underworld isn’t as difficult as it may seem, as there are various entrances to it throughout Act 1. If the Underdark is the next major milestone in your adventure, chances are there is an entrance close to your current position on the map.
Steps To Get to the Underdark in BG3
Goblin Camp Entrance – Defiled Temple
Enter the interior of the Goblin Camp, where Priestess Gut sits. Head to the western wing and open the second door from the left. You can lockpick the door or talk to the priestess for a cure to the tadpole, and she will lead you inside. Once inside, open the door on the right, by the broken bridge. You will enter the Defiled Temple.
Defeat or avoid Polma and pick up the Padlock Key by her bed. Run through the passageway to the east, and you will soon reach the Moon Puzzle. Solve the puzzle by arranging all the black dots on the bottom circle—the one with the beam of light on it. Enter the opened doorway and climb down the long ladder into the Selunite Outpost in the Underdark.
Shortcuts to the Moon Puzzle
There is a shortcut near the Goblin Camp where a few traders stand guard in front of a door with Firewine Barrels inside. Kill the guards and lockpick the door. Alternatively, head to the adjacent room and jump onto the ledge to enter the guarded room. Use the Reduce spell and enter the small crevice to skip straight to the Moon Puzzle.
Blighted Village – Phase Spider Matriarch Entrance
To access this particular entrance, you will need the Fly or Feather Fall spell. Feather Fall is ideal since it applies to the entire party. Approach the well in the Blighted Village, just west of its fast-travel point. Throw a coin into the well with the dialogue option and then climb down into the Whispering Depths. Alternatively, you can enter the blacksmith’s workshop directly opposite the fast-travel point and access the Whispering Depths from there. Head deeper into the cave, defeating its inhabitants, until you encounter the Phase Spider Matriarch.
Fighting her can be tough, and you will have an easier time with the Misty Step spell. Alternatively, you can sneak close to the chasm at the center of the chamber, apply Feather Fall, and jump into it. This will play a cutscene showing your descent into the Underdark, where you’ll land in Minotaur Hills.
Riverside Teahouse – Overgrown Tunnel Entrance
Inside Hag Ethel’s home, there is a secret passageway through the fireplace and into the Overgrown Tunnel. After defeating the hag, pick up a whispering mask and head back up the area with flower traps and vines. Instead of taking the path on the right, where you climbed down from, take the path on the left. Jump up the ledges, and with the mask equipped, you will see past an illusory door. Enter the mushroom circle ahead, and you’ll be teleported to the Torchstalk Gulch in the Underdark.
Zhentarim Hideout — Elevator Entrance
Head to the northwestern corner of the Zhentarim Hideout, as shown in the image above. Continue to walk into the wall to the northwest, and you will pass through it. Beyond the illusory wall, open the elevator winch and descend into the Underdark. This entrance leads directly to the Storehouse.
