The big question gamers seem to have regarding Indiana Jones’ latest game is whether it will have an open-world setting. This is difficult to answer because neither MachineGames nor Bethesda have revealed anything about it.

We are sure that it will be a first-person experience, as is evident by the many trailers and gameplay showcases so far. However, there is little information present on the type of narration the developers are following in this game.

The Steam page for the game only lists it as a ‘single-player’ game. If it follows the same path as past MachineGames productions, we can speculate that Indiana Jones will have a open world theme.

The rebooted Wolfenstein games from the same studio have similar elements of fast-paced first-person action sequences. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle seem to be using a similar formula to it. So, chances are that the game will be linear, but will still have open areas for players to explore if they wish to do so.

This may include secrets and collectibles while also giving us an open-ended choice of how to approach a particular encounter. You can either be swift and stealthy or loud and big.

Can You Switch to Third Person?

As discussed before, the new Bethesda game is shaping up to be a single-player first-person experience. It is a shame that fans won’t be able to see Indy in full action during cinematic sequences. This sparked the wonder in fans whether they will be able to switch the game to third-person on will.

Unfortunately, that may not be possible, at least on launch. This is probably due to a few reasons, including the fact that Indiana Jones would have turned out to be very similar to other action-adventure with an explorer storyline, like Uncharted and Tomb Raider.

There must be more reasons why MachineGames decided to keep the adventure strictly first person, except for the cinematic cutscenes. Moreover, they are following their hallmark formula which could prove useful in attracting gamers.

We know that the game will eventually be released for PS5. Maybe by then, we will receive a mode that lets us switch to third-person in between sequences.
