Discover which platforms support Mafia: The Old Country and how each one may handle the game’s performance.
A prequel to the first game in the franchise, Mafia: The Old Country follows a young Enzo Favara across the scenic landscapes of Sicily as he establishes himself in the Torrisi crime family. Developed by Hangar 13 and powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game presents a visual world apart from its predecessors and is set to test the graphics capabilities of current-generation hardware.
In addition to PC, Mafia: The Old Country is available on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S. There are no plans for a release on the Nintendo Switch or on previous-generation consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is partially due to the game’s significant system requirements.
How Well Will Mafia: The Old Country Run on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S?
Set to release on August 8, 2025, Mafia: The Old Country is a GPU-intensive game. Its official system requirements demand an Nvidia RTX 2070 at minimum and recommend an Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti. These are the requirements for running the game at 1080p 60 FPS, which means things do not look too promising for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This is because the consoles have graphics capabilities roughly equivalent to an RTX 2070 Super.
However, with consoles, optimization is essential. PlayStation has a collaboration with Unreal Engine 5’s developers at Epic Games to optimize the engine for the console. The Xbox Series X|S, on the other hand, has handled recent Unreal Engine 5 titles like Oblivion Remastered admirably well. As a result, one can expect Mafia: The Old Country to run at a stable 60 FPS. However, it will require the consoles’ respective upscaling technologies to be set at performance mode.
Upscaling at performance mode will substantially reduce visual clarity compared to a mid-range or high-end PC. This will likely be consistent with other Unreal Engine 5 titles on the consoles. With Hangar 13 and their parent company, 2K Games, at the helm, there is hope for Mafia: The Old Country to be well-optimized. 2K Games is known for ensuring their games run smoothly on consoles, with one of their latest titles, WWE 2K25, meeting that expectation.
Will Mafia: The Old Country Run on Steam Deck?
Officially, Mafia: The Old Country’s Steam Deck compatibility status is listed as Unknown. But even if it were available on Steam Deck, the latest installment in the Mafia franchise is not a game recommended for the SteamOS-powered platform. The Steam Deck is notoriously unreliable when it comes to running Unreal Engine 5 AAA games, even at their lowest settings, and Mafia: The Old Country will likely be no exception.
