Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Crime and Reputation Explained

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has an elaborate Crime and Reputation system. Here is a thorough explanation to help you.

Pretty early on in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, players are introduced to the concept of Crime and Reputation. Although these mechanisms are pretty different from one another, they are still intertwined. The developers did a good job of making this installment feel like a medieval knight simulator. And if you don’t want much trouble at your doorstep, you should always be cautious during your endeavors.

While many places on the map don’t have a law enforcer roaming around, it’s still not a “no man’s land.” So, you should always be careful as to what decisions to make in the most crucial of times. The game claims that all of your decisions have an impact on the land you are on. So, it’s best that you learn what these concepts are.

There are many actions in this game that can be deemed as a “crime.” However, that doesn’t mean that you are prohibited from committing them. The best part about an RPG like KCD 2 is that you can be as ruthless of a knight as you wish to be, but there are some things that you should look out for.

There are no elaborate criminal actions, but anything that will make Henry a bad Christian will be deemed as a crime. So, if you want to be a law-abiding citizen, refrain from the following actions:

  • killing innocent humans
  • harming innocent people or domestic animals
  • stealing
  • breaking into random houses
  • disturbing peace in general

If there are people around you who see you committing a crime, they will instantly report you to a guard. They can also be courageous and responsible (or foolish) enough to confront you themselves. But remember that this isn’t the “perfect crime simulator.” So, even if nobody sees you committing a crime, chances are, they will figure it out on their own and then report you.

When too much crime happens in an area in a short time, people will become more vigilant and arm themselves, and guards will call reinforcements to ensure order is restored. This is called the state of Unrest. Let it settle down so everything can return to normal.

As we mentioned earlier, both Crime and Reputation are intertwined. While committing a Crime directly puts you in danger, Reputation is built or compromised gradually over time. You can check your Reputation among different communities or settlements by accessing your interactive menu.

You can do so by either opening the map or the inventory. After opening either of these, simply head to the Player screen. Now, you can use the prompted buttons on the bottom of the screen to scroll through different Tabs until you reach the Reputation Tab, third from right.

Players can now look at the list of settlements or communities that they have already discovered or are still undiscovered. The icon on the right shows how content the community members are with Henry. The colors and the look of the icon are pretty easy to interpret as to what reputation you hold in their eyes.

Bad Reputation can be remedied by paying an indulgence or a Penitent pilgrimage, which can be imposed by a priest. To keep on the good side of people, make sure to help them out with quests and not commit any crimes. Moreover, carry a Torch with you while exploring civil settlements at night.
