Crafting in Baldur’s Gate 3

Traditionally, crafting in the Baldur’s Gate series has never been as ubiquitous as what you might find in other popular RPG titles such as Skyrim or the Fallout Series from Bethesda Studios. As we’ve seen in Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3 appears to be following this more limited tradition.

It is possible to craft weapons and armor but players will have found that the majority of equipment crafting happens via quests. This is primarily done by accessing the the Adamantine Forge at Grymforge, though there currently are some exceptions.

Potions is another crafting system which has seen limited use so far, with only one known recipe for the Elixir of Silvanus. (You’ll want to take a Mugwort Bundle to the Cauldron of Boiling Theriac in the Druid Grove.)

Fans have been hoping that additional weapons, armors, and potions may become available to create in the full game. And while that still may transpire, it turned out that the developers had something else to surprise us with.

In their most recent community update the developers at Larian Studios have revealed that there is another crafting system coming to the game! This time it will be Alchemy , which you can use to create a variety of different items to aid you in combat.

The domain of magic-wielders, conjurers, and anyone with a passing interest in mysterious fumes, Alchemy allows you to turn your collection of herbs, wild mushrooms, crystals, and monster limbs into useful items you can prepare ahead of a fight.

The developers go on to say that “you can use ingredients found in the wilderness to create a variety of extracts, then combine extracts to create potions, poisons, and oils to imbibe or coat your weapons with.” This suggests that the items you create won’t be ones that you use during battle for healing or removing status effects. Instead, consumables which you use to increase your attack or defense before entering into battle.
