Scarlet Witch is arguably one of the most “broken” characters in Marvel Rivals. The reason why I say this is because her abilities make her one of the best heroes to choose from when you are just starting off the game. However, once you learn how to play as her, you can be an unstoppable force of chaos. But what is the best way to play as her? That’s what we are here to tell you!

How To Play Scarlet Witch in Marvel Rivals

Scarlet Witch’s Survivability

Scarlet Witch is one of the “squishy” characters in the game and doesn’t have that much health to survive when the entire enemy team rallies on to her. She has 250 base health. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get any bonus health through any of her Abilities like Mister Fantastic. Although her Traversal Abilities like Mystic Projection can increase her survivability by giving her invincibility frames, they still can’t protect her for longer. But one thing is for sure. If she is up against a brawler DPS, chances are that Wanda will win that 1v1 because of the range she has on her primary attack.

Scarlet Witch’s Mobility

She doesn’t have too good of a mobility. Scarlet Witch walks at a regular speed like most characters on the roster. However, she excels in moving in and out of combat situations. She has two major Traversal Abilities: Mystic Projection and Telekinesis. Both of them operate pretty differently. The first one lets Wanda phase-out of the current realm and re-appear a few seconds later. This also gives her invincibility for the time being. However, if attacks like Venom‘s Cellular Corrosion were attached to Wanda before going invisible, she would still take damage when it explodes, and it would also follow her around. Enemies will also continue seeing you as a red orb in this phase, unlike Loki‘s invisibility.

Her Telekinesis is nothing more than a controlled descent. So, if you fly high using the Mystic Projection or are falling from a building, you can break your speed by using this ability, which is passive by default for Console players. You can then aim easily while falling, which will also make you a harder target to hit.

Scarlet Witch Playstyle and Combos

The best way to play Scarlet Witch is to be as offensive as possible. If you are somebody who likes being on the front but doesn’t pick a Vanguard, you can choose this character to always keep the pressure on your opponents. Since your primary doesn’t require any reloads, make sure to always hold it on somebody. Also, if you anticipate your enemies coming from a specific point in a crammed-up place, you can use your Dark Seal in that place to create a stunning area.

While Wanda’s primary attack is consistent, it does not deal a lot of damage. So, you need to switch between her secondary attack, which is Chthonian Burst. It has four charges, which recharge faster when she is dealing damage with her primary attack. So, you would want to use these alternatively to deal good damage and keep your Chthonian Burst always recharged. Try not focusing on shield characters like Magneto, Doctor Strange, and Groot because your primary doesn’t affect them directly.

Best Team Composition With Scarlet Witch in Marvel Rivals

ROLESCHARACTERS
VanguardsMagneto/Doctor Strange, Thor/Hulk/Venom
DuelistThe Punisher/Hawkeye
StrategistsCloak and Dagger, Rocket Raccoon

Vanguards like Magneto and Doctor Strange can hold the point effectively and protect the backline. Magneto can also give his shield to Wanda while she is charging up her Ultimate Attack for that final blow. Similarly, he will also benefit from having their Team-up Ability. For the second Vanguard on the team, you can select Thor, Hulk, or Venom. They will all be diving characters who can contribute to Wanda’s damage output.

Another Duelist apart from the Scarlet Witch can either be The Punisher or Hawkeye. I have put them here because, unlike Wanda, who will need to flank enemies to pressure them, these two can ensure that the enemies are under pressure from the backline as well.

Cloak and Dagger are great at the backline. Cloak can even contribute to the offensive pressure because he has a similar primary attack as Wanda. Rocket Raccoon, on the other hand, can heal from an impressive distance, which will be useful for Wanda because she won’t be able to always come back to her team easily.

Scarlet Witch Counters in Marvel Rivals

Despite all her powers, she is bound to make mistakes and that’s when you strike the Scarlet Witch. There are many ways to counter her depending on what playstyle somebody is using to play as Wanda. However, I have found that the following characters do well against her:

  • Hawkeye
  • Black Widow
  • Iron Man
  • Storm
  • Doctor Strange
  • Groot
  • Venom
  • Magneto
  • Adam Warlock
  • Iron Fist
  • Black Panther

Hawkeye and Black Widow will be able to take down Wanda from a long distance before she can even connect her deceptively long-ranged primary attack. Since she is a squishy character, chances are, she will die right away.

Iron Man and Storm take this “eliminating from afar” quest one level higher (quite literally). While Wanda can target them even in the sky by using her Mystic Projection to reach a bit closer, if they are at a good distance from her, and also high in the sky, she might not survive their attacks.

Doctor Strange, Magneto, and Groot have shields and walls to block most of the witch’s attacks. This will make her an easy target and also save your allies from any and all damage coming from her. Venom, on the other hand, can keep pressure on her by walking out of her traps, using his tethers to target and damage her even when she turns “invincible.”

Lastly, Iron Fist, Magik, and Black Panther are brawlers who can move and attack so fast that she probably wouldn’t have much time to defend herself. Adam Warlock is one of the few Strategists who can wipe out Wanda easily because of his charged secondary attack followed by a primary.

Scarlet Witch is one of the characters that even beginners can take up when starting off Marvel Rivals. However, if you wish to invest time in her, you will find that she is a helpful DPS character who can do wonders when played correctly. Following are the tips you can use during your gameplay:

  • Her Ultimate is one of the most powerful ones in the game, with the capability of one-shotting everybody on the enemy team. This reality-altering power comes at the cost of Wanda being vulnerable while charging it up. So, charge your Ult behind the cover and pay attention to the orbs that start popping up around her. When the third one appears, get out of the cover and wreak havoc.
  • Keep switching between the witch’s primary and secondary fire. Try keeping the secondary attack’s ammo below two at all times so that you ensure that you are using it freely.
  • When a Vanguard or brawler-type character is on your tail, make sure to hit them with the Dark Seal to stun them while you escape. You can also place this seal in corridors and areas out of which the enemies can appear.
  • The Mystic Projection ability has two charges. Use it sparingly. Always have at least one charge left on you. Don’t use two in quick succession unless the moment absolutely requires it.
  • Don’t use your Mystic Projection if you are the only person contesting the point and are in Overtime. This is because while you are invincible in this form, you can’t contest the point.
